A relatively cheap way would be to add a similar 4GB RAM stick in your available memory slot. Not only are you doubling your RAM capacity, but likely your motherboard supports dual-channel so your RAM access will be a bit speedier (lots of info left out about that, do your own research but it will be a bit better).

You could obviously add a newer graphics card in there, if the PCI-e x16 slot you mention isn't taken up by your existing one, or your "PCI-e slot" (x8 or something?) is available for a card that works with it.

If you wanted to be more 'hardcore', add a second 320GB hard drive and RAID-0 that sucker, if you've got a spare SATA port and your motherboard supports RAID, which are likely both the case. Just make sure to sync your important info on Dropbox or a similar cloud storage service, AND back up to an external drive, because if one drive fails then you lose everything. Consider RAID-5 for a little speed boost with a hot spare, if you've got one more SATA port and the cash for two new hard drives.

Awesome info i can confirm that i upgrated RAM not long after purchase. I can't decide on Graphic card, is it just as simple as going out buying a new PCI-e card? Any suggestions on which brand to buy and model?

On another note Eve seams laggy after the latest expansion patch is that my system or a general issue in Eve?

Based on your specs, I doubt your system is causing any lag, but you should try running it under the "optimized for performance" graphics settings as a test. If it's no longer laggy, then it's probably your system.

Considering you're already using an AMD graphics card, I would recommend seeing if your motherboard supports CrossFire because that would be a great boost. Otherwise, yeah, find a card that fits into your existing PCI-e slot (check the x8 or x16, etc. slot type versus what the card is), and with higher performance cards you need to make sure you have a spare 6-pin (usually) power connector on your power supply.

I personally like NVIDIA and my GTX460 works great for this game, but I'm not a hardcore gamer as much as a PC technician. That means I can recommend something that works, but you'll have to reach out to true gamers to find what works *BEST* - there are forums full of people that will recommend certain card combos for certain reasons. I hope I've helped you a bit though.

I would go NVIDIA for graphics. I've used ATI (now AMD) before, back then their drivers were a PITA.

I wouldn't buy anthing lower then GTX600 series unless you just can't afford the 600 series.

Great info

How would one try to see if Motherboard supports CrossFire?

It will be written on it.

*Things I would immediately change*

•4GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM
•Supports up to 16GB
•2 x DIMM sockets (1free)
-Fill it, at least another 4

•Windows 8 pro
-Toss it

Hard Drive
•320GB SATA 2.5” HDD
- Relegate it as a source of a couple of interesting magnets.
- Get an SSD as your OS Drive, and use the 320, or buy something larger as a storage drive.
- I bought a 600G WD Raptor as a storage drive for under $100 off eBay (secondhand)

Crucial M4 are reliable SSD, had mine for 2 years, and other than the duty hours bug that was fixed, haven't had a single issue with it.

There's a million reviews of SSD, go from there.

Are you looking to do a full rebuild or just make eve suck a little less?

Frankly man, those specs are not something I would use as a home PC. I do a lot of Solid Works and I would be even more cantankerous if I was trying to use that PC.

Probably the worst advice I've ever seen.

I already did and have 8gb installed. Next step would be to put two 8gb sticks in,

I quite like Windows 8, runs pretty well for me to be honest.

I'm not after elite performance just some pointers on the Processor and Graphics card.

You get absolutely the best bang for buck with an SSD.
It will make it 'feel' a lot faster too.

If you google your motherboard type you can read if it's crossfire capable.
Honestly though, not worth the hassle having 2 video cards in your situation.

In eve if you press Ctrl+F it will show your frame rate, let me know what that says, as you play for a bit.

Going here, and getting this will show some basic info about your specs.

Will do, i tend to multibox too.

Looks like my motherboard is a AMD A55 Chipset. I'm a bit lost though with it.

I just looked up your CPU...and well.

There's probably no way around that being not very good.

First ask yourself, and answer truthfully, what you want to spend.

Let me know.

I don't know tbh, I'm out of the game at the moment and bought this system for £180, it doesn't work to bad with eve. But knowing that when i bought it i was going to spend money on updating it I am now trying to find out what i need to do.

Someone on another forum where I bought this from placed a A6 in and gets good rating but also says an A8 works well too. Like i said I have no clue.

I know next to nothing about AMD, so I'm no good to you there.

Is there a certain processor that fits into the board?

I mean could i not take the one that is in out and replace with a shinier one?

How about adding a dedicated graphics card? Where does the power come into play here?

Your first port of call is determining what your motherboard is.

Once you have that you can get the specs and see what it supports.

Get CPUZ from the link in an earlier post, and let me know what mobo you have.

Yes a proper video card will make a difference, but again what prices are you looking at, and what does your mobo support are questions that need answering first.

Jesus, Bloody Wrench! You're giving the worst advice and being rude! Yes, SSDs are awesome, I use them, but not everyone can afford them. And the PC he described is not crappy as you're suggesting, I think you might just be spoiled. The OP asked for advice for upgrades for EVE performance, not to overhaul the system, CPU, etc.

OP likely has a A55/FM1 motherboard so options are limited to APUs that fit the FM1 Socket

This is the best APU upgrade you can get for that socket:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106001

That APU has integrated Radeon HD 6550D video which can do "hybrid crossfire" with certain Radeon 6700 series video cards such as:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121442

Unless you are running a 64-bit OS, no reason to upgrade the RAM, but if you are, look at 8GB kits if you have any cash left, they are less than $100 and can be had for $50-60 when on sale.

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.
