These are some rescues made today. I had difficulty linking to Concord data on the first pilot. Ston is still away.

I appreciate Edaine filling in for me while I spent a couple days in Otsasai. It is a lonely low security system and there was little activity there. The entire time that I was there I saw neither hide nor hair of any of the most verbal pro or anti Hethites. It was a completely different crowd with a totally different agenda. I decided that it was time to come back to work.

DSTON is scheduling a re-visioning retreat from 115.06.28-115.07.08 on Saiso V. I will be unavailable during that time. I was hoping that Edaine might be willing to run patrols again during that time, but he has not yet agreed.

On a somewhat regular basis we receive transfer of rescued former slaves and contract for other refugees from pilots who are not content to just leave people to die. Without exception, these pilots have also taken good care of those they have rescued before entrusting that care to us. We protect the anonymity of those pilots when the so request. But, we do take this space to say, "Thank You" and "We respect you."

I am not much of a pilot nor do I aspire to be. So yesterday's experience was at the same time terrifying and exhilarating. I was on my way to Sasta to receive a group of refugees into our care when I happened upon a jet-can in Jark. I checked it and there were three people on board. I was alone, piloting an unarmed rookie frigate the DSS Minimal. I made the decision to try and rescue those on board. It is hard to describe how anxious and unnerved I felt. I decided to align to the Sasta gate and transport the passengers just as I warped. I thought I had, when I discovered that my safety was still on and nothing was in my cargo bay. I went back to the can and tried again with the safety partially disabled. Three people were rescued. It didn't occur to me until much later that I hadn't recorded the pilot or the time stamp. My hands must have shook for two hours afterwards. I'm an educator, not a pilot. The only space flight I do is what I absolutely need to do.

I have a much better appreciation for this part of what DSTON does.

[115.06.22] 167,589 former slaves from the Khanid Kingdom recieved from the "Khanid Abolition Fund."

For some time, NUVOS has indicated that the Khanid Abolition Fund was going to be delivering a sizable number of refugees into our care. This was transacted yesterday. We have been informed that more will be arriving this week prior to the start of our re-visioning retreat on Saiso. This brings me to the crux of our agenda at this retreat. Both Dr. Nalthkh and myself have made an extensive tour of the humanitarian crisis that is the slaves markets of the Khanid Kingdom. There is a level of degradation and suffering in these markets like none most people will ever see or even imagine.

There is a certain pessimism that follows me into this retreat that I regret. Problem is, I can't just deny its existence. It is a pessimism that says that the problem is too great for our resources and that others will not be interested in helping. This may be true, but shouldn't we try?

Regular patrols will continue up until the first day of the retreat.

"What if" These are the words we use to either shift direction in positive anticipation in spite of the risks or to shift away because the possibility of success is too slim and the risk too great. These two words are forming the center of the retreat planning on Saiso. A friend recently told me, "Ston, the compassion you naturally feel for the individual? Multiply it until it folds in the suffering masses."

We received the second arrival of refugees yesterday late. The Elders are very busy.

I have been informed that the "Khanid Abolition Fund" has been changed to "Khanid Slavery Abolition Fund." In further reference, we will make that change. Preparations continue for the retreat on Saiso. We will be committing the administration of our Matriculation Centers to fine group of associate Elders while our head Elders will be joining us at the retreat. Halfred Greenhand will be presenting and facilitating discussion on a symposium dealing with the infrastructure issues involved in the greater numbers of Matriculants coming in through the Khanid Slavery Abolition Fund (KSAF). This symposium will be one of the central areas of study as we begin to ask re-visioning questions. Mr. Greenhand has been instrumental in guiding our Development Office in efficiently running the centers. His input is vital.

Patrols continue as I prep our rescue reception centers for the days of my absence.

Its always something, isn't it? Whenever there is preparation to be away, something mucks it up. It must have been a sensor malfunction but the most bizzare thing happened on patrol early this morning. Our ship struck an animal carcass floating in space. It was some sort of medium sized hoofed herbivore. It damaged part of the exterior sensor array and repairs will need to be made in short order. That means that part of my day has to be spent in scouring for parts. Ugh! How did an animal carcass end up out there in the first place?

Let me help you out. You could say, "Ston, try to put it out of your mind. Just pack an extra case of cool, refreshing Quafe for the retreat on Saiso. And, don't forget to bring enough to share with the whole gang."Blink

The new day is fresh, less than an hour old, and there are people who began this new day killing and being killed. But 77 people found the death cycle interrupted. As the day was new, so was their second chance at life. We welcome these 77 with happiness and help.

Be at peace.

Nearly all the arrangements are complete for the retreat/conference at Saiso. In a few hours I will depart and meet the others at the site. I am both looking forward to and dreading the time. But, it is necessary. I have a particular positive anticipation of catching up with a friend I have not seen in person for some time. A cup of coffee by a campfire is much anticipated.

Blessings upon you! It looks like my niece has been dumping survivors from her "active salvage" forays into our company offices again. The station manager has been complaining that, and I quote, "This isn't a hotel, dammit" and I daresay it is indeed starting to look like one. As you know, our own household staff is quite full and thus we do not need any more additional servants at the moment.

At your leisure, please come and collect the following 190 people:
20 x Exotic Dancers, Female
10 x Exotic Dancers, Male
70 x Janitors
20 x Marines
20 x Militants
10 x Prisoners
40 x Tourists

Thank you!

So is like, miss Samira on the run from DSTON and stuff? That sucks, what if she's happy living in a box, then you just went and plucked her out? ♥

Rescue patrols have resumed now that the conference on Saisio has concluded. When time permits, I will try to go into greater detail as to the conclusions of the conference. Or, perhaps , Dr. Nalthkh would rather do that. The rescue work is still in the mix of our focus.

Aside from the details, I experienced a reinforcement of one of the better aspects of life while at the conference. The best graces in life come to us through good people who cross and sometimes join paths with us. I have seen this in new ways and am glad for it.

Rescues continue.

DSTON thanks Lady Denvonshire for her continued attention to the needs and well-being of the less fortunate she encounters in space. We have received into our care those you rescued recently. Peace to you.

The second rescue below included an unusual item identified as a Mini-monolith. Our technicians are carefully examining it under strictly controlled conditions. It appears to have an unusual quantum characteristic, whatever that means.

Dr. Nalthkh is busy beginning a new term in Edmal so I thought I might summarize just a little of what we decided at the retreat in Saisio. To make a long story short, we will be working more closely with the Khanid Slavery Abolition Fund (KSAF). Practically, this means that our Matriculation centers will be growing. We will also take opportunity to encourage any interested parties to impact the slavery situation in Khanid space through KSAF.

A transcription error has prevented a link on the first log below. After testing several variants of the name, I have come up empty handed.

Human suffering in the slave markets of the Khanid Transport Storage Corporation. This was title of one of the symposiums we attended while in Saisio. Apart from any decision made regarding what to do, we all had our eyes opened to the scale of human suffering in these slave markets. Go ahead, visit Khanid space and go to these stations and observe for yourself. One cannot simply nest oneself in comfort and even in established values in the presence of such suffering. It shakes you. Blood, sweat, and tears stain the hands of the Khanid military and Caldari corporate interests perpetrating this.

You're doing charitable work. Okay. excellent. I approve. Do you have to brag about it every day, or is that purely voluntary?

The reason I post each and every rescue has been explained in earlier posts.

What is worthy of acknowledgement? Each of us answers this question differently. I see many things on this forum that I do not believe worthy of mention. Most of them have to do with the violence, greed, consumption etc of the capsuleer lifestyle. Make your judgments of me if you must and if I am culpable, then let me be judged. Am I guilty of boasting? I don't think so, but no one completely knows even his own motives. However, there are many living in glass houses that ought to stay the hand before the stone is cast.

Now, each self-conscious, living, breathing, thinking, volitional human being we rescue is worthy of mention. Those we rescue have a record to point to. "I was rescued from that death can and had a second chance at life."
