I"ve been training towards a path of Drake/ Tengu skills for a long while and as the skills have finally come around... I haven't really earned much towards fitting a Tengu. As I run the numbers through EFT...... I start plugging in some of the better fit Drakes, cheaper fit Tengus and low skill Ravens... I was surprised to see my dps shot up a lot when I plugged in a simple Raven. And a Raven is more affordable for me. This seems a little too good to be true? Is EFT accurate?

As long as you have the latest update, EFT is accurate. Make sure that EFT has a current API for you.

Yeah it's right, the Raven is a much better damage dealer now thanks to the cruise missile buff. Also the Drake and Tengu have bonuses that only increase kinetic damage so when you switch to the other missile types their damage takes a nose dive.

There is two major drawbacks on on the raven while on paper it does better dps It has worse damage application due to larger weapons, it also take more damage due to higher signature radius and slower speed.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Tengu is fairly expensive because of the subsystems for it. The appeal of the Tengu (being a tech 3 ship) is it's flexibility because of how you can switch out those subsystems to make it fit different purposes. Tech 3 ships also pack more DPS in a smaller-mass ship, so passing through wormholes (which collapse after a certain amount of mass goes through them) is more efficient with them.
Go Drake and then Raven, leave the Tengu for later.

I can't speak about the Raven, as I haven't tried it since Odyssey. Though my Raven Navy Issue used to have problems with cruisers, but since Odyssey that is no longer the case.

* Cruise missiles were buffed (fury hit cruisers quite well now).
* The RNI got an extra mid-slot (I added a TP, though I don't use it as much as I should).
* I think the RNI may have gotten more calibration points, as I was able to upgrade to a third T2 rig (flare - was T1, plus 2x T2 rigor).

As for speed and tank, I find that:
1. I can "speed tank" all but Angels. Moving with an AB makes a significant difference, even in an ordinary Raven.
2. I only take damage on warp-in, as I use the long range of cruise missiles to kite from about 105 km. I typically turn off my hardeners when I get to that range. I plan it so I land at the next gate just as the last ship pops.

All that being stated, my HM Tengu is level 4 missions on dumb mode. It is invulnerable (with a 100% T2 fit and an AB, you just have to orbit the warp-in beacon at 10 km or next gate at 500m). Though it only does kinetic damage well, and has a tough time with frigates because of lack of drones (RNI has room for both light and medium dones), forcing me to reload with Precision.

I also use a pulse Legion, because sometimes I want to do EM-weak NPC missions (Sansha, Blood Raiders, Rogue Drones) on dumb mode too. It is the exact opposite of the Tengu, in that the pulse Legion positively murders frigates, but is slower on larger BS.

Whether I use the RNI or Tengu (or Legion) depends on my mood. I like to mix it up to keep from getting bored too.
