I was wondering if only making blue print copy's would make enough isk to cover the operating cost of a Pos and make a profit

All depends what you were copying.

If it is the bog standard ships and mods then you are going to need to sell a lot to even break even.

On the other hand, if yu are doing as an example, Orca sets, Dreadnought etc then it may be possible.

A pos can have up to 10 adv mobile labs IIRC (its 9 + 1 mobile lab or 10 adv labs). This means 30 copy slots.

30 slots x 24 hours x 30 days = 21,600 hours per month

Using capital construction parts valued at 1,300,000.00 isk per 5 run BPC with one 5 run copy taking 912 hours (sci 5, no implant).

Using capital construction parts valued at 1,300,000.00 isk per 5 run BPC with one 5 run copy taking 67 hours (sci 5, no implant) you can make 322 runs of 5 run BPC's. Total value of 418,600,000 isk per month.

Using capital armor plates at 2M isk per 5 run copy it comes to 644,000,000.

Making copies is really only profitable when you are not actively using the blueprint to manufacture.. In the examples above you would require 25B - 30B in blueprints and would basically be breaking even while your ME research slots would be making more better isk / month (they 20 available ME slots on the 10 adv labs would net you roughly 2B / month).

30 copy slots implies 3 maxed out characters working it. Neither of you have mentioned the fact that the OP can start small to get his eye in, making modules and not wasting too much ISK, before moving up once he knows his market. And btw OP, knowing your market is key here: What to sell, what your component costs are, what the trade volume is. Without that, you're going to fail.

In the beginning a POS will operate at a loss. Over time as you grow your capital, skills, accounts//friends/minions a POS can provide you with a source of income. Look at a POS as a facilitator to more profitable ventures.
