Space Ship Modification

I know several people been wanting more ships, more vatiety, so iwe been pondering alittle on a idea, the idea is fairly simple, it wouldent need more ships added, or more skins, but a adding a ability to via Mechanic and Engineering make modification to existing ships.

So how this work, its fairly simple when you have a ship, you can set it up for a process where you rebuild the structural integridty of the ship, taking out plating, adding more electronics, or why not more engine housing, what this do is you can modify a ship loosing ONE slot from high, mid or low, and adding ONE slot to anouther area... Example, my rattler is 6 high - 7mid - 6low ... and by doing the costmisation process, i could for example take one high slot, and make it into a mid... making it into a 5 high - 8mid and 6low

So far so good, but a ship can only modify this once, it cant exceed the 8 slot in any particular area... also tinkering with a design that entire engineering teams spent time to make as they are comes with a possibility to making parts of the ships systems less effective... when you modify a ship, there is a loss in a random field like powergrid, capacitor or cpu ... one of those fields will loose a factor of X where X is a number within to balance, im not to great with game mechanics so ill let others suggest whats realistic loss, then this factor X be modified down by each level in the skills that allows you to costum modify your ship.

Well thats the idea to it, it give uniqueness to ships, and variants within each ship type, maybe it will be to good and open up for optimisation, thats why i added the random negative effect you will get, in any case, its far from a ready proposal but hopefully can give ideas ! if its not been suggested before, i havent seen it though ! flame away ! Essentially you want a set of subsystems to be made that can be applied to any ship. An interesting idea but would need some considerable limitations or drawbacks. Only one allowed per ship seems to be the right idea.

Changing a module to another power slot makes for there being 6 different ones of these already. Also they would need to be sized like rigs are.

I'm also thinking these new subs would have a 1% bonus per sub level to various things. That or a 4% one that replaces the ships racial skill. These would be seperate from the ones that change modules.
