Hey,

I am a newby at this game.
At this moment I am trying some tutorials so I can find out what aspact of this game I will like most.
I started with mining and all goes well, but I find it hard to mine when some idiot pirates are shooting my ass of.
It is of course a part of the game. And I kinda like it.

Question 1
I am flying an caldari venture. I am aware it is not ment for shooting pirates ed, but I do want to be able to protect myself while mining.

What would you suggest to fit as weapon on my venture so I can protect myself?

Question 2
I bougth a mining drone (also got the skills) but when I was in mining belt, I sent out the drone. I have no clue what it does and where it has gone. Do you need to navigate the drone in any kind of way? How do you get it back?

Question 3
I started at the school of applied knowledge in caldari. When I look in the market, I have the idea I am not able to buy all posible items. Is that because I have a trial account or do I need to go to another place?

1. from NPC pirates, yeah, you could use 2 combat drones since the venture has space for 2 of them. (light combat drones btw), from other players, no, mining ships aren't designed to resist so much damage, they can tank the NPCs but cannot survive against an experienced ganker.

2. drones have to receive orders when you release them, they keep orbiting your ship, you have to select an asteroid (targeting first of course) and in the drone menu (in the lower right corner of the screen) you have to take the drones which are "out in space" and give right click on the tab and tell them to mine, they can do it once or repeatedly, they'll fill their cargo and leave the rocks in your ore hold.

3. trial accounts have certain restrictions, the most important are a. they cannot use industrial ships (mining barges, haulers, etc..) b. they can only go up to cruisers in terms of ship progression c. they cannot use certain modules, like cloaks for example, and d. they have certain skill restrictions, like not being able to use the contract system, in fact, they cannot even trade with other players directly or send money to other players.

Also, recalling drones can be done from the drone menu, or there's a hotkey - Shift-R - to recall all your drones.

Combat drones work similarly to mining drones, but they can be set to "passive" - only react to direct orders from you - or "aggressive" - automatically engage any ship, NPC or PC, that engages you with weapons or electronic warfare.

The Venture's turret slots are needed for its mining lasers, so you'll probably be dependent on scout drones to keep the NPC's off your back. Aside from that, your best defense is your ability to escape an adverse situation, as the Venture has a naturally dual-stabilized warp core (meaning you have the native ability to escape a ship with a long-range warp disruptor or a high-power warp scrambler).

As for the markets, the only hard restriction on whether you can buy something is whether you've got enough ISK in your wallet to cover the asking price. You won't be stopped from buying something you can't use. However, you'll want to check how many jumps away from you that item is; the market system covers the entire astrographic region (e.g. The Forge, The Citadel, Lonetrek, Black Rise), so you may end up buying something that's a dozen jumps away, or worse, being sold in a station that's in low-security space or on the other side of a low-security choke point.

p.s. It's not a Caldari Venture.

It's a Venture, which is an ORE ship.

Open market. Change the drop-down top-left from Solar System to Region. Now you can see everything for sale everywhere in the region you're in.

If you want to mine with the whore ship...the ORE ship I mean, its a good choice since it has 2 warp core stab, this means you can get away if someone is trying to scramble you..well 2 points so you got a small chance to get away. But as other people told already, you will lose your ship from profesionnal gankers as they tend to **** murder you in seconds ... ahhh the good ol memories of killing a miner and waiting the cries.... hehe

1. The venture has a drone bay. Use drones to protect you while mining.

2. After releasint the drone you have to order him to mine for you. And you should also no forget to recall them when leaving (ooh the amount of drones that I abandonned can't be counted anymore). But I do suggest protection drones (light scout drones) instead of mining drones.

3. Open market.EVE market is player driven and thus certain stations will be supplied with other stuff then orthers and not every station will have a big market. There are certain trade Hubs in EVE (Jita, Amarr, Dodixie, Hek, Rens)
