I very much see CCP as a vendor offering me Software As A Service. Whilst I commend CCP for all of their hard work, and totally appreciate why they disconnect the cluster from the internet during the DDOS; it does **** me off that they haven't put adequate protection in place to stop this from happening.

They take a serious amount of money from us, the least they could do is protect their network from such attacks.

CCP I suggest you look into buying something like Cisco IPS Intrusion Detection System devices, then use a third party such as Qinetic to monitor your network for such attacks. As is you have failed the community a second time. Get your 5h1t sorted out!

Thank you CCP for all your hard work, I know this must have been tasking for you guys. As a character that lost SP as a result of the extended downtime I don't blame CCP I blame the jerks the DDoS'd us, I would personally like to make them pay for what they have done.

Cheers to the men and women that stayed up all the time to resolve the problem, thx for bringing me back my beloved game :)
Took time to view 10 years of screenshots, the game still impresses me as much as it did the first time i tried it with beta-testing, lol.

Anyway, thanks for the day-off, also spoken to people outside my house again, been sitting in the sun, watched tv, had a shower, made breakfast, lunch, dinner and breakfast again! Almost felt like a normal person again... almost ! Big smile

Great work, thanks for all the overtime / effort put in to make it stable again. And good luck on the Oddessy deployment, if that is still planned for tomorrow.

All the IDS in the world isn't gonna help when you've got more incoming data than your datacenters link can handle.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

Ignorance!

Trying to secure a server or worse a network is like trying to secure your house. If someone wants to break into your house bad enough, there is not a damned thing you can do to prevent it, at some point driving a truck through the front door negates all attempts to stop an intrusion.

Same thing with computers, servers, and networks.

It's simple for you to suggest what CCP should do to prevent this type of thing, yet you don't even know how they were comprised, nor what type of equipment they use against this type of attack.

Considering how many government networks, financial institutions, major corporations have all suffered from DDoS attacks, it should stand to reason by example that it's near impossible to stop someone from attacking your network or IP address. Gaining access or "hacking" into a network is something utterly different, this was just an attack, but one which could be said choked the connection to the point it caused connection issues.

And if you have not already figured it out for yourself, let me say this yet again. The entire point of the attack was most likely done to cause people like you to point your finger at CCP, in anger, when it was really the fault of whoever attacked the server in the first place. Don't be manipulated by the attacker, why not instead use reason, understand what was done and the most probably reason why, and place blame squarely where it should be placed.

Great job CCP!
Anyone working in IT business can imagine how difficult it has been to fix this issue.
Thanks for all the effort the last 2 days!

I shall give you one of three options:

Because we're all secret wanna be trannies.

The Eve community is secure enough in it's sexuality to pew-pew with boobs, even if they don't have boobs in real life.

We're giant perverts.

Of course it could be all three, a mixture of the three or none of the above. Personally I just have a soft spot for redheads.

Thanks CCP, We really appreciate you for getting back online so quickly. What a nasty attack. Anyways, much love from us, the players. Compensation is nice, but not necessary since this wasn't your fault.

I hope the perps of this attack die in a fire, slowly.

LOL. Ignorance is bliss. I too run a Cisco IPS to protect our small network. You think it withstands DoS or DDos? Or do you think they don't know what happened?
Before giving advice, get all the information that's needed to give that. And YOU don't have it.

Was interesting, CCP receives a DDoS Attack.

And 90% of the forum threads demand SP.

Well obviously someone performed the dark arts, summoning the lesser gremlins of the interweb.

Little known fact: Lesser internet gremlins often appear as DDoS attacks, but are in fact a subspecies of trollius Hackerus.

Thank you to all the programmers and coders who I am sure worked tirelessly (sp?) to bring us back online again. I am sure you would have loved to have the day off, except some D-bag decided to be a prick. I hope this does not effect the roll out of oddessy, but if it does i understand. I would be sad but it would be understandable. Congratulations to the team for working so diligently to get all the servers up and running again!!

Hmmmm, how very strange. Frigate Wreck (from ship that died early yesterday) is still there. WH exit is in same place in W-space, but the K-space end has moved.

Govenment, Banking and massive industry have just as much luck dealing with this stuff as CCP do. There is very little you can do.

I hope to see a fairly good reimbursement.

Dont get me wrong, yes I dont like ppl doing these ddos attacks but when it comes right down to it, ccp is a very public creature and should expect these things( have plans for it )
That said, we ( the players ) cant do much more then trust their word that it actually was a ddos attack...

Last time we got 50k SP for what seemed like a minor thing, this time around it was rather massive so I expect to see the reimbursement go up too.

news post

and for the love of EVE... stop using SOON!!!
