21 day old n00b here but it seems to me that updating the forum thread isn't very useful when it is every bit as unreachable as Tranquility.

Having a media person keeping twitter & facebook updated would have been much more useful I think.

They had updates via twitter, and their facebook pointed to twitter for the updates.

After all this time, still no eta only shows what CCP really thinks about its customers.

Small-business network tech here -- lost a server last year due to hardware failure. We had to build one from parts and restore (manually) from a two-year-old offsite backup.

CCP, you guys just cemented my trip to Fanfest next year -- I want to shake your hands for the dedication you've shown to your players in the past twenty-four hours. :)

thanks for the hard work fixing it. has to suck for you guys having to take the server(s) offline cuz of something like this

Dosn't work quite like that. Thats adding complexity to a bad situation. 1st get the system up and running, then run root cause analisys, then there is the incident reports, then there is the fix what ever was the root cause was to prevent it happening again. Then you can look at making changes like rolling out Odyssey. If anything this may delay any roll outs if CCP use ITIL.

Hacker group LulzSec, the same group that's attacked Sony and Nintendo in the past, has tweeted that it's committed three distributed denial of service attacks against gaming companies today, bringing down EVE Online's Tranquility server, Minecraft's multiplayer services, and the Escapist Magazine's website. EVE Online's CCP has confirmed both the outage and the attack, the Escapist is unreachable at the moment, and Minecraft creator Notch says that things were down, but supposedly service has been restored.

LulzSec hasn't shared a reason for the attacks just yet, but we can only guess it's, as they say, "for teh lulz."

Update: The group has gone after Riot Games' League of Legends servers as well. Attempting to log in to the game gives a "server busy" message, though there's no official word from the company yet.

Most likely, a huge percentage of the people that play EVE are American, which is most likely why you think all Americans *****. But you are the one speaking English, and bitching about Americans. Seems ironic to me.

I do happen to agree however that people shouldn't be bitching about the down time, specially being that it wasn't CCP's fault at all. While I do agree with that, I don't agree with your attitude towards Australians and Americans, or any other nationality for that matter. In this one place in the entire world where people can exist without racial or national bias, without religious bias, without regard to all those worldly things that cause unreasonable conflict such as skin color, etc, you feel the need to insult specific people, and for what purpose?
