I am wandering what the affects of Remote Sensing, Planetology, and Advanced Planetology actually are? I have different levels of these skills on different toons but havent noticed a deffinete difference. Now I havent compared them side by side. But remote sensing doesnt seem legit for sure since one toon doesnt have it at all and she can take scans on current installations from 5 jumps away.

I assume that planetology and advanced planetology will help me to produce more P1 materials but to what extent? Their discription is so vague.

I am training these skills as a prerequisite but once i remap to intelligence/ memory I will be on it for awhile but still, I hate to waste training time on something that is going to make a marginal difference.

Also, on a side note, is there any way to quantify a planetary scan. Like say i want to find a better source of noble metal. So i go and find a suitable planet and i scan it. That doesnt mean much until I set a commmand center, upgrade it, set an extractor and drop out some heads. Than I have spent a couple mill just to find out how much per hour I can extract.

Thanks
Alex

Planetology and Advanced Planetology make the colour map more accurate. So with planetology 1 you might, with a particular planet, material and slider setting, see mostly yellow and green, with planetology 4 you might see mostly green and blue with a couple dark orange or red spots and with advanced planetology you might see some white areas.

It's not increasing the planet's yield, it's making you more capable of seeing where the rich areas are.

Remote sensing only applies to planets you don't have installations on. Once you have a command centre deployed, you can survey the planet and update your extractors from the other side of the galaxy.

Remote sensing is based on light years and not jumps. Not sure why the character and scan a planet at all without it, maybe by default you can scan up to 1ly without it? You sure the character auctually tried to scan? You can open a planet in planet view, but scanning totally different.

Remote sensing only increases the range for the character to view a planet and survey it. It has no other affect (and no, distance does not affect data received from the planet as some say).

Planetology and adv planetology affects how good you are at scanning a planet for materials, and how accurate you are. Basically with lower planetology skills when you scan a planet even though you see a spot with a high yield, it may actually be 1 or 2 inches in a different direction. Higher levels decease the deviation of the data (colors) and so where you place the your extractors will be more accurate.

Higher level planetology skills will also show hot spots which are condensed areas of material. These are only viable to players with high planetology / adv planetology skills so many players will not even know they are there.

Thats why you scan a planet before placing your extractors. When you view a planet in planetary mode, you select one of the materials on the left and then move the slide bar left and right to get an idea of what amount of materials are on the planet.

The bars next to the material types is the replenish rate, so higher rates mean more materials over time. The more players on the planet the less materials there will be available. So normally it is a good idea to view the materials and then view how many other players are on the planet. You can do this by right clicking the planet and choosing to show other players command centers. You then need to manually find other command centers and click on them to view their setup. The only problem with this is there is no way to tell if it is an active or inactive player or how long it has been there / abandoned. There are ways to figure it out but its moer of a learn on your own. You can determine if they are extracting by; for example seeing where there extractor is positioned and seeing if there is really any material there (if there isn't they are most likely inactive).

Thanks to you both, this helps to clear things up alot.
