Ignore what exactly? They have been wanting to get rid of local for years, they just don't know how.

Oh and bump.

Personally I feel its frustrating to go into lower security areas of space, particularly sov space and find that your cloaky hunter is almost useless becuase of the local channel, and I would also like some sort of highly specialized 'cloak' hunting ship or black ops module.

I think they should tie in local with sov costs, sov alliances pay maintenance to have a local channel (available to everyone and no they shouldnt be able to turn it off and on at will, although tying it in with a sov or pos structure might prove interesting) it would also give a logical reason why npc space (including empire) would have a local channel and make tonnes of unclaimed sov systems just like wormhole space.

Why is it that people who want to do "something" about AFK cloaking almost never discuss the issue of balance or local?
Because balance isn't their primary concern. They only look at the game from their perspective and fail to see the whole picture.

Is it a time issue then? That is, the more time in game they have the more they start to think about these other ideas? Early on I rarely thought of game balance issues....

Yeah, this thread serves CCP by illustrating an effort to consolidate cloaking complaint threads.

Winning.

Apologies for not replying, didn't see yours till now.

I guess it could be about time, time and their lack of patients in it. New players and some old ones, don't feel inclined to understand the mechanics involved in this. That or they simply don't wish to see past their own agenda.

It amazes me the extent of ignorance of many players regarding this subject. Even when you show them the facts behind it all, they will simply refuse to acknowledge the actual reasons for it's existence.

I think that is a great idea, and I appreciate that link here!

The key point of the idea, is that I worked from the vantage of how to balance hunting cloaks against cloaking, and just tweaked the details as little as possible from existing game mechanics.

The differences between it and cloaking?
The module, when activated, doesn't cloak the ship. It just enables the sensors and any probes controlled by the user to detect cloaked vessels as if they were not cloaked.

Number of targets? As dictated by the ship being flown. Same with your targeting range.
Can you use other modules besides this while it is active? No.
(This means you can't shoot cloaked vessels, just spot them)

What do you do when you spot them?
You lock them. Existing game mechanics won't allow a locked vessel to cloak, this simply allows specially equipped ships to lock already cloaked ships.

What happens next? Same as existing game play for any vessel capable of cloaking that has been locked. It either fights or runs, and other ships can also target and shoot at it.
The spotting vessel can also shoot, so long as it toggles off the spotter module before engaging any weapons.

So anyways, it is raining this morning in my part of the world.

Hard to see the road while driving in to work at some points. Kinda like it is hard to see a cloaked vessel.

So I hunted this thread down, and decloaked it. Ta-da!

Indeed. Because it seems some can't even look past page one, to see if this topic has been discussed before.

In all honesty though, why is this not a sticky? (not that we really need more right now)
