EDIT: Forget it, I fixed it myself.

Had to track down new exe file and use it that way.

Also, in case it needs reiterating, we really need the detailed logs that the Launcher writes out to it's cache folder to be able to help diagnose what's gone wrong in the situations where people are still failing to log in/update/patch or whatever. Please, please, please file a bug report and attach the logs.

*EDIT*

The logs can be found under the launcher/cache folder inside your EVE installation.

Apparently more than 7.

To expand on this point, there are a number of exotic setups for multiboxing involving either multiple physical installs of the game, hybrid symlinks, junctions, soft links, hard links, partial copies and more. And in almost every single case people multi box for one reason: to be able to have individual setups for their settings, or to hasten the login flow. The deployment today, as difficult and bad as it was (for which I apologise) was to deploy the single sign on service, through which we can start to work on these issues. My hope is that in the end, you will be able to log into the EVE Launcher once, which downloads your settings from the cloud, with all of your accounts linked, via either a single EVE master account or via some other OAuth provider, and be able to select characters and switch between them at the click of a single button.

I guess I'm in this group, Hard Symbolic Links to have each client have it own setting. Which make log in a breeze, allowing each Eve Client to have it own monitor settings.

I don't like the idea of a "Master Account", Hacking and entire account stealing would become more of an issue than it is now.

As for "Cloud Setting" that best kept to the in game stuff and nothing to do with Video or Sound Settings.

Regarding the slow startup time of the new EVE Launcher: the first time the new EVE Launcher starts up, it needs to determine the state of your client installation. This requires it to analyse every file in your installation. This will take some time, since the EVE client is somewhere around 12Gb in size. However, after this point, the checksums will be saved in the Launcher's cache folder. Clearing out the Launcher's cache folder will obviously delete this file, requiring you to re-analyse your installation.

If people are finding that they need to spend a lengthy amount of time analysing their installation every time they start up, I would beg them to file a bug reporting, and provide the logs that their Launcher is generating, and saving into it's cache folder.

It took an hour to validate the client and hopefully the checksums have been saved to cache. At the 30 minute mark after hitting the button to start the client launch/login I have the two instances of launcher.exe but no CPU usage, I/O at a slow virtually non-existent dribble, etc. At what point do I declare this puppy dead?

So, the purpose of the new launcher is to utilize your fancy new Single Sign On protocol. As I understand it, that means once I log on, I am logged on to all of Eve's various subsections.
Can you please tell me why I had to log onto the forums to post this? Isn't the whole purpose of this fancy new advertising tool... er launcher... to sign me on to all of Eve?

You broke something that worked to upgrade it to use a new feature, and it doesn't even do that.

You failed, CCP, and you should feel bad

12, I have 28 chars. Most are lab rats/factory monkeys. I normally play with 3 or 4 accounts at the same time, up to 9 max. I have come across people who have more accounts than me. 20 is the highest I remember. Some of these are from people who make a living out of training up chars or are heavy industry like me.

I'm not sure if this is a technical limitation, but the only way in which the new launcher would actually make it faster for me to launch multiple clients than it was before would be if it were possible to launch another client that you've signed in while a client is launching. This is pretty terrible to explain, so I'll do a FORUMDIAGRAM(tm)

Previous

>open launcher
>spam return key
>speed log in while alt-tabbing

New Launcher

>open launcher
>log in
>click play
>switch user
>log in
>wait for the client to launch fully

^^^^ This is where it gets slow - I can log in faster than the launcher will let me launch clients. I really don't want to sit through this if I need to log in a cyno chain quickly and from what I can tell, you want to remove the login screen, so going through ExeFile.exe won't work around this for long.

when i saw the new launcher on the test server i thought " this cannot be the finished product, doesnt even have a play button." but i get over it and get used to dealing with it. (even though you somehow managed to make the log in process worse, which i didnt think was possible) but now you managed to roll out this broken launcher early for what exactly? what will be different when i log in tomorrow? nothing at all of course besides all the settings i need to redo. so in half a day you managed to lock out players due to this broken launcher, and the ones that could log in just lost all those settings. i just simply dont understand the point of all this nonsense. ccp please explain

So, it's probably been said multiple times, but I'll say it again for folks that don't want to read 96 pages of people whining because CCP pushed out a ******, useless, new feature that ****** everything up.

Go to your game folder, and navigate to the Bin folder, and launch from Exefile in that folder. Bypasses the shitastic launcher completely.

Example; C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin is the folder for me. Exefile is my new shortcut I use to launch the game, and I'm cruising just fine now :)

so, according to ccp, pointing out that since they were so nice and gave us this wonderful new launcher we`ve been begging for we now need to start setting up each and every toon up again.. or asking them to work on bugs like random socket close instead of making this sort of "awesome features" is personal insults.. guys.. try oxford dictionary online..

Do us a favor, make it so the launcher can save the passwords with the account names, also have on the launcher a drop down of accounts for fast client boot load.

Do something really good with the launcher....

Regarding the traditional login scene and log off options: I mentioned this in another forum thread (here). The traditional login screen and functionality still exists, and many people have been bypassing the EVE Launcher and accessing it to restore the old functionality.

The new login functionality that we deployed today is designed to start changing the way users log into the EVE Universe; whilst it is often true that one shouldn't change something if it isn't broken, such a cliché doesn't allow for changing priorities. Our goal was that by rolling out the new login method, and supporting the single sign on service, we could lay the groundwork to start moving people away from the messy multiboxing setups that have traditionally never been supported by us as a company, and towards something that makes more sense for CCP and the services we provide.

As for the log off button, many people don't really use it to log off from the game, but rather as a quick means to quit the game and restart at the login screen. The new token based authentication that the EVE Launcher uses isn't cleared by the EVE client, and so when it attempts to restart, it will actually attempt to reconnect with expired credentials which would throw an error message. It isn't perfect though, and we will be working on a fix for this tomorrow and in the coming days.

how will this effect us nutjobs out there that insist on only using a single toon?

Multi-boxing still works...

What doesn't is, there is no longer a Log Off option. Now, to bring another alt online, of the same account, you have to drop the client completely. Total Fail.

I thought that at one time, the concept of a single log on meant not having to enter the password again at log off for an alt change, on the same account.
