launcher throws an exception - " ...connection to content-server failed..." (translated from exception)
When start without launcher - " incompatible protocol"

Tl;DR: the patch server is down, and it's patch release day. If you managed to update before it crashed, then you can use exefile.exe directly; if not, you'll either need to wait for the patch server to get fixed, or apply Chribba's unofficial patch by hand

I started repair.exe once and it patched my EVE to the newest Retribution version without much problems, I waited like 10 minutes. After that I started ExeFile.exe in /bin and got up and running.

Would be great if the new launcher would be working soon though!

Here's my issue, maybe somebody is just as stupid as I am.

Since the patch wouldn't initiate and launching eve cold with the .exe file was the initial suggestion, I had been launching the PATCH file from the directory where the launcher is found....

After quite a few attempts with no results (the patch window never came up)
I ran the patch service from the EVE folder in Start menu.... start/eve/repair and VOILA.... the patcher came up and patched....

THEN I was able to run an updated eve client from the EXE file in /bin folder.

Hope that helps somebody else who may have been launching the patcher from the wrong location....

This seemed to work for me.
C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe

I first tried restarting launcher. Didnt work.
Next I killed the application and reopened. Didnt work
I opened up every eve.exe related file in the main eve folder. Didnt work
Repaired. Didnt work
Went to C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin and opened the ExeFile there. Worked

My problem was the offline mode on the launcher. This seemed to bypass the launcher and went straight to the sign in screen. Not sure if the last step worked or a combo of the previous. Just decided to list my steps to see if they helped.

Very amateur CCP, why don't you test properly first?

I have got it working but it takes ages to verify and it's a pain if you want to multibox.

With the server currently being unable to log anyone in *except those who individually go and work on it, what can we expect to happen? I am not working on it though I could using some of the things people have stated previously, but I won't because that's not why I play Eve. I do not play it to work on my computer because of some files they messed up.

Yes, I understand s*** happens sometimes, so I am not really all that upset. However, being we pay to play Eve *except those who use in-game cash to play* is it fair to say we can expect something from this ? Perhaps a 24 hour rollback *on game time not skills* as this was not a player mistake and it effects everyone ?

I have no problem continuing to pay for this game as I still enjoy it. I am not asking for a huge apology and a new month or anything of that sort, just some sort of compensation for the time. I do not mean to make myself look like an @$$ when I say this and I might, but even an in-game mail to the players would be nice. I mean after all, they are paying you CCP to be here and continue to play.

This is a joke, the launcher wouldn't update, now its stuck saying i'm offline and I cant log in. You release a product then make me search logs and crap to make it work? I'M NOT A COMPUTER PERSON WHY U RELEASE STUFF THAT DOESN'T WORK CCP.

More and more like EA everyday.

Well I just grabbed the download from the link provided earlier of the updated files put together by Chribba, I backed up all the affected files first, swapped in the new ones, didn't bother repairing or anything, just launched exefile.exe from the /bin folder (by the way this file is not updated) and voila, I'm in!

I can understand how some people who aren't so computer savvy may have some issues with doing this kind of stuff, my recommendation is to wait for CCP to fix their server issues affecting the launcher and updates.
