I can not log in, launcher fails, then if I run eve, incompatible protocol (surprise!!)
Run repair, repair does not work.
Download and installed new launcher, installed but still get cannot connect screen in a lovely launcher window..
Come to forums to see this debacle unfold.

As a customer, I am not prepared to go downloading cracks and patch fixes that others have engineered.

Cummon CCP. I was really feeling the love for you all but it is things like this that set back all your excellent work. Cry

ROFLMAO...

Who needs to play the game? Reading some of these posts has been more entertainment than I can stand. I actually pissed myself laughing so hard on a few of them.

Seems like we need to set a long time skill training not only for new expensions but also for launcher patches aswell now.
Seriously, are you guys testing your patches also from external or do you just use your internal connections and think everything is great? This is ridiculous...

Smashing Idea for CCP, Make the recent patch available for DIRECT DOWNLOAD, that way people can still patch, use ExeFile.exe in the bin folder and then play...

that way, no more bitching, you can fix the launcher and people will shut it...

you all should pay me for thinking for you... seriously

On May 21, 2013, our web servers came under unusually heavy load which resulted in connection issues for all associated services that rely on the web servers, such as the EVE Launcher and the client repair tool. Our engineers have been investigating the issue with top priority and when this was written the investigation remains underway and will continue until the problem has been identified and services have been fully restored.

On May 21 we also deployed EVE Online: Retribution 1.2.4 and the new EVE Launcher. These deployments are not believed to have caused the underlying problem but are believed to have affected its manifestation. Updating the Launcher or the client requires connecting to our currently overloaded web servers and as a result, EVE Online players may not be able to either properly update your EVE Online client, the EVE Launcher, or connect properly to the Tranquility server to play EVE Online.

For anyone experiencing any of the above issues we would like to point out to this thread for further explanations and potential workarounds.

We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences caused by these unexpected server issues.

Grats to CCP for rolling out a buggy launcher; don't you have a QA team making sure this doesn't happen?

No, they have an economist. It's almost as good, except it doesn't prevent these things from happening. Or understand anything about EVE economics.

So... no Eve tonight???

edit: running repair.exe generates a repair.exe.log file containing a python traceback dump pointing to SafeUrlOpen(...) in repairTool\repairTools.py saying it couldnt connect to a client dot eveonline dot com /patches/repair_info.txt file.

Is the problem server-side?

I don't see a logoff option in game anymore when I want to logout and get a different alt. Only Quit.

I appreciate the lack of large unnecessary moving animations on the login screen and we are able to log directly to a character. Also appreciate the "saving" of the password... but could you PLEASE make this multibox friendly. So I can not take forever logging in all my clients. Appreciate that. Better idea... TABBED CLIENT! As many accounts as I can manage without the resource barrier of my PC.

I love how people go all crazy, I remember when diablo, diablo 2, Everquest, Dark age of Camelot, world of Warcraft, planetside, Star Wars both Mmo's, planetside 2, all had similar problems. Chill out people, it'll be okay soon. Every online game I've ever played has these same issues.

Not claiming to have a fully working fix here - but it worked for me patching up my other computers so if anyone want to try go for it.

If the straight exefile.exe launch does not work and showing incompatible protocol you could try this file.

http://eve-files.com/temp/eve-update-20130521.zip (it's the files that got modified for me today, 50mb)

Copy and while launcher will still most likely fail, start the exefile.exe straight from the \bin folder.

On your own risk ofc but worked fine for me.

Else many suggested running repair.exe which seems to work in some cases.

Just use Chribba's method.
Seems to have worked for all who tried thus far.

CCP is working on it. they don't WANT to have a problem with their game, especially having to put up with pages of whining. just be patient and let them fix it.
and no, they don't need to fire anyone. Roll

agree. there were a few good posts about how to try to fix - like a good community, some people try to help. This complaining clutter only makes things worse by burying good, solution or feedback driven posts.

We've put up a thread for possible workaround here as well: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238230&find=unread

Not that there's much to report that hasn't been covered in this thread. At the moment there's no solution that works for all use cases that we know of. What I can tell you is that that investigation into what is causing the massive load issues to our web servers is underway and we're not going home until this is fixed. We're really sorry for all the trouble.

For those reporting connection errors, are you able to connect to https://client.eveonline.com/launcherv3 and http://client.eveonline.com/patches/win_launcherinfoTQ_inc.txt

The first link took ages to load https://client.eveonline.com/launcherv3 , while the second worked fine.
But when I removed the s from https:// in the first link, it loaded up really fast, like a normal webpage. Maybe that information could be helpful for you.
