Something for our Wine users we've discovered during our internal Mac debugging: There seems to be an issue with the certificates file we are shipping with the new launcher which only showed on Mac but not on native Windows.

It might be worthwhile trying to replace the certificate file found in the (launcher path)/appdata/EVE_Online_Launcher-2.1.(version)-beta.3.win32 folder with a more recent one, for example with the one located at http://curl.haxx.se/ca/cacert.pem - hope this helps. :-)

Alternately, wait for the next launcher update as it will include a more recent certificate bundle.

The new launcher seems to work pretty well for me in Windows 7 (64).

As a test, I let the launcher patch my client up from a fresh Tranq client copy.

Will likely give it a test in a few days from Linux and see how that goes.

My only gripe so far: It would be nice if the population count was still present on the patcher after logging in.

I ran the launcher today, after the new patch hit the test server. It showed up for work, let me log in and then vanished without a word. Ugh

I put on my Inspector Gadget hat and opened the task manager to find this. I waited for 15 minutes or so, but did not notice any further activity. I guess this is a launcher update gone half-bad.

Anyway, after killing the tasks and re-launching the launcher all is well and I am all patched up. (Windows 8 Pro)

Thank you very much for the logs! It appears something very low-level went bad in the UI framework we are using when the launcher was about to shutdown. We haven't seen this specific error before, but we are looking at it now.

Yeah, It looks like the most recent patch crippled the UI, I unfortunately already wiped my client & launcher, but the jist of it is:

1) I run the Launcher. (Using the singularity IP address instead of the name)
2) Launcher boots up proceeds to patch
3) Launcher proceeds to vanish and re-appear and the entire news section on the right plane is blank.
4) I proceed to attempt a log-in, after entering my Username and PW the left plane goes blank only leaving the "Server: Singularity Join other pilots" at the top of that plane.

This leaves me with no method to login at all.

Try deleting the launcher's cache folder. Something odd seems to be going on with the caching behaviour in the integrated browser engine and a recent launcher website update broke that.

Linux testing - 2.1.534643-beta.3
1. Clearing client (not launcher) cache fix login page loading.
2. Move (launcher\cache\BrowserCache) folder into client folder (Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\eve_client_folder\cache)
Multiple launcher create folders http://clip2net.com/s/53XKSf
And don't remember login in launcher.
Single folder (BrowserCache) for Multiple launcher can prevent login page loading.

Folders for clients make as described there - http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients
single data folder and multiple clients

Move launcher\cache into client folder (Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\Patches)
3. Repair Tool button in eve Launcher setting - if press ''Start" and after press "NO" in "Repair Client?" window - eve Launcher setting move under launcher
4. VERY high cpu usage - one of ten threads http://clip2net.com/s/542cJp

More wine stuff, launcher V.2.1.534643-beta.3 with the new cacert.pem.

It does not seem like that fixes it, the login form still does the -7 error thing most of the time and the sliding ads (Buddy program, Fanfest stream) are not loading correctly. I do have two new entries in the debug.log though, so I might be doing it wrong:

debug.log wrote:
[0514/221226:WARNING:backend_impl.cc(1660)] Messed up entry found.
[0514/221226:WARNING:backend_impl.cc(1946)] Destroying invalid entry.

I can also confirm pretty high CPU usage. The launcher alone uses 100% of one of my six cores while doing nothing at all.

Fake edit: Deleting the client settings seemingly got rid of the "invalid entries", login form problem still persists tho. Complete debug log still looks like this:

debug.log wrote:

Linux User (Wine 1.3.29 on Ubuntu 13.04) here.

1st start: Tried options, logged in, accepted EULA, launcher froze after login. did not patch (i guess it hang there already).
Killed it with kill -9.

2nd start: Started patching, visual update hang (until the window regained focus).
Links work, Patched flawlessly.
No Login/Play-Button, though.

I get SSL-Errors in the console:
Quote:

[0515/093850:ERROR:ssl_client_socket_nss.cc(1530)] handshake with server client.testeveonline.com:443 failed; NSS error code -5994, net_error -2

debug.log shows nothing interesting:
Quote:

[0515/092910:ERROR:network_change_notifier_win.cc(111)] WSALookupServiceBegin failed with: 8

3rd start:
login-frame errors out with:

Note, that this should not be a problem in the HTTPS-Implementation, as HTTPS in Eve works fine (see: http://pwning.de/stuff/eve/httpsIGB.png for TQ-Screenshot). The Images (Fanfest-HD-Stream-AD, Buddy-Program), which should be https as well (if i read in this thread right), are working fine.

Wine-Settings:

dll-overrides:
d3dx11_43 disabled (directx11 is still broken in wine, but will be detected "working" by eve and thus used and crash)

run-command (script-extract):
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
export LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
wine explorer /desktop='======>EVE-SISI<======',1920x1020 "C:\EVE-SISI\eve.exe" /server:87.237.38.50

edit:
running with optirun (on my nvidia-grapics, which works fine for eve) the launcher crashes with:

Whatever this optirun thing is, it seems to cause issues with runtime loading or overwrites other required libraries causing wxWidgets to fail on import.

I know you can do this via the keyboard... but a right click menu on the user/pass fields for pasting would be nice.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee

Its nVidia's way for dual-graphics cards (as you have it in nearly every mobile device).
You run on the Intel (CPU/GPU-Combo)-Card by default. Optirun just does some VRAM/Kernel-Voodoo to make processes (and their subprocesses) use the dedicated graphics card.
From a program point-of-view there is only 1 Card visible in any case (either the GPU-part of my i7 or the dedicated GeForce GTX660M - not both!).

This was pretty much battletested over the recent past years and has only a few flaws.

--

Using the CPU for rendering has the flaws above (no login due to ssl-stuff)

Using the GPU (via bublebee) for rendering yields the crash - but thats just the launcher, not eve. (I never use the launcher on TQ - instead i just boot up the EXEFile.exe and start the launcher in patchmode (with overrides etc.) for patching and switching to the direct-launch afterwards)

I could start a seperate X-Server with just the nVidia-GPU (CPU-graphics disabled) to see if the problems persist without bublebee (which i expect to happen). I suppose wx probes the hardware (in /proc/ or via lspci on linux) and tries to select the first graphics-device (happen to be the CPU) which is unavailable due to bumblebee.
As im programming python myself i will test it in a small program (both native and via wrapped .exe in wine) when i find the time.

Nevertheless - it should work on the CPU (without optirun), which it perfectly does (besides the ssl-error)

Right, yes it should indeed run on the CPU.

The SSL error is a different thing though that seems to be limited to Wine. Sadly that issue is currently not of any priority to us as Linux is not officially supported and it does neither happen on native Windows nor on Mac OS.

How about enabling intergation with something like http://keepass.info/ the same way it integrates with browsers?

Maybe, we'll discuss it with our security team. If they give their OK and it's possible from a technological point then it might end up as something we want to do, but no promises. :)
