I would like to chat with friends in Eve in Japanese but do not know how to do it. I have tried changing the input method on my Mac, but no luck. I have searched through the forums, but my google-fu is weak. Any ideas? Big smile

Unfortunately this is not supported on the Mac client. We do not intend to support it either on the Mac client for the foreseeable future. Sorry!

Feel free to poke me on: Twitter

Hi

Although this may not be supported, it is possible. The EVE / MAC IME allows it, as long as you haven't installed some edition of MS office; 2008 or 2010 iirc

If you have, you may need to re-install the ariel TT font in your library somewhere or other.

Anyway, as for EVE.

Select your input language as desired using the 'input menu' option from the system menu bar at the top of the screen.

When selected, click on it again to give you the drop down menu.

Select 'Kotoeri preferences' from the list, and in the pop-up menu check the 'input style' setting.

Make sure this is set to Kana style and not Romanji

Switch back to what-ever english input keyboard you use

Launch EVE, and move to a windowed client. and log in

In game, use the Input menu option as before to switch to your Japanese input language; either Hiragana or Katakana for Japanese characters as Romanji will give you roman ones.

You should now be able to type in Japanese characters.

There are some limitations I think, as you may not get the proper Kanji conversion, and I don't think you can enter characters from the pop-up kana table, it's something anyway.

That being said, isn't there supposed to be a Japanese localised client coming out at some point? Kind of sucks if you can't enter in Japanese character set in a Japanese localised client.

Hope that helps some
