Clicky mining

So I saw this video on the new archaeology system implemented in Odyssey, where you have to click on loot crates that are being vacuumed in space.Seriously all I could think was.. why not implement that for mining? Pulverize the asteroids with a mining laser and then click on the chunks floating in space to recover them..

It would make mining much more interactive and I also see a possible way to counter botting there, maybe. Was it actually in ccp's plans? .. sry I'm too lazy to go through the 10 bazillions threads on mining.

I'm delicious.

It would make it annoying for players and actually ENCOURAGE botting, so, no.

How would it make it annoying? If anything it would make it more fun imo.Of course since it would require more involvement than just pressing one button and afking, maybe ore yield should be adjusted in consequence.

Personally I'd much prefer PLAYING the game rather than afking it.Also I don't see how this would encourage botting any more than the actual system is.

I can totally understand why people with 10 afk mining accounts would see this as a bad idea... but what if they only need 1 account to do the scooping part? Have a new ship made for scooping ores and then you can set up afk miners and play on the "scooping account" , you still have AFK accounts, but the player himself is actually playing the game.

I'm delicious.

I like the idea. Right now if I'm mining I also have a novel to read and if a player is doing that something is wrong with the design (I imagine it's on the first page of what not to do in game design). A more interactive mining experience would keep my focus on the game. It would be hard to get in though, because miners like ttheir comfort zones.

Maybe use it for a new resource or mining. Something like comets or planetary rings. Possibly resources for building stargates or implants.

But yes, I like the idea.

I'm Naomi Hale and this is my favourite thread on the forums.

Mining is boring. Looting cans is boring. Combining the two is not somehow going to make things magically fun.

How would it make it annoying?

There is (not a few) people that enjoy mining being not much interactive. They find it relaxing and enjoy the fact that you can do other thing while mining because mining don't takes that much attention.

Changing that to a 'more interactive' way wold sure annoy this people.

Also, ask people involved in Planetary Interaction how 'fun' its the 'interactive' click-fest that PI is.

-CCP would boost ECM so it also block the ability of buthurt posting.

Besides it ebing relaxing, for the more exciting areas of play (low/null/WH), how are you expected to pay attention to both d-scan/local and chase rocks around the screen like your playing "asteroids"? that would be a guaranteed way tog et every miner who dares venture out of highsec instantly ganked, or if hes paying attention to local, so unable to get enough rocks that he would make more money mining veld in highsec.

That sounds twitchy, and EVE is not a twitch game, and that's why I'm playing it.

If EVE becomes a twitch game then I'll unsubscribe and never come back, because then it's no longer the kind of game which I subscribed to 6 years and 2 months ago. It'd represent a fundamental change of game type, in that it constitutes asking for a completely different set of player skills from what the current game wants.

It is the same magnitude of wrongness as changing World of Warcraft into a trading card game.

I'm all for mining being made interactive, as long as it doesn't become twitchy.
