The major question i ask now after 7 years of Eve is "Why"

"Why" make these changes to ice mining after 7 years ? Will these new ice anomalies, be limited and force players to compete for there resources like belts ? will this drive up the price of ice or make its value fall ?

After the PI debacle and the removal of the seeded resources i am going to be on the right side of this change. By the time this expac comes out i will have horded a year worth of ice so i wont care how badly they destroy the economy this time in the beginning.

Sorry I got burned on the Robotics change in PI hardcore

...really? It should be pretty ******* obvious, and if it somehow isn't, that's what the fanfest presentations and dev blogs are for.

What, exactly, do you imagine the significance of "7 years" to be? Is there some time frame after which game mechanics are supposed to be rendered immutable?

Yep they wanted to make mining in null sec profitable and viable to mine low-end ore....but with the changes to grav sites, they have all but exterminated mining in null sec. Now any afk cloaker or roaming frigate gang doesn't need a probe launcher to scan you down....YAY!....great job CCP

Because that's certainly stopped ratting in 0.0 Roll

No skills need to find Ice.

Doing something with the Ice....that's another story.

refinery efficiency V, 2% refining implant, 50% station. easy.

LOL,
Add refining efficiency 5, ICE processing 5, and a 5% refining implant, I believe you can get 100% refine at a 35% facility. I know it is easy to get 98.5% at a 35% facility, I am assuming ICE processing 5 and a 5% implant will push it to 100%. 40% outposts are common in null. Any serious miner has good refining skills, a 50% facility is not needed.

?? Bad comparison there.

I assume you are referring to combat anomalies. Lets have a look at that shall we. When attacking some one ratting in a combat anomaly the attacker has to deal with added DPS from the rats, small yes, but enough to matter, and is attacking a combat ship that CAN FIGHT BACK. This is risky for the ratter as they are likly in a PVE ship, but still they can mitigate the risk thru their fit, and watching local and D-scan. Also many of these sites have warp gates so attackers can not warp right on top of you.

The new mining anomalies there will be no rats, at least not while miners are there, and the mining ships can not fight back. So tell me again how this is the same? How it compares to null sec ratting? Oh yes, it is half the isk/hr. So why should it have the same risk for a much lower reward?

Null sec mining is barely worthwhile now, with the added safety of being in a hidden belt that must be scanned down. Removing this feature adds significant risk to null sec mining. Ratting has at least 300% higher reward to offset a higher risk. Ratting anomalies are still worthwhile from a risk vs reward perspective. mining in anomalies will not be.

If null sec mining is so risky now that it is not very popular, how is making it more risky going to encourage more players to do it?

If this change goes through industry in null sec will go down not up. Considering that Odyssey was supposed to be a buff to null sec industry, as it looks right now, this expansion will be a failure.

As yet I haven't found an answer to these questions.

This all sounds a lot like scanning for anomalies in a WH, an experience I have yet to try.

Once Odyssey is implemented how does a person locate ice anomalies?

Are there any skills that one should train for?

Looks like the local scanner just finds the ice anom and you warp there. So far, I have only found one, but I am hopeful I will find more.
