Odyssey Exploration Frigate

I really think that now is the time for a unique and dedicted exploration frigate. Odyssey is probably going to have the most focus on exploration out of any forseeable expansion so the time is now.

Much like Ore provided the Venture and Noctis (as well as Barges and Industrials), another faction should enter the arena with a frigate and unique skill book focused on the new exploration mechanics.

Personally I was thinking of something sleek and nimble to contrast with Ore's ship designs and bonus wise should have a slight edge on the empire explorer frigates. Something SoE or SoCT.

And I know we just got the Gnosis, but their numbers are limit, they're a cruiser and are really more of an all rounder than a dedicted explorer ship.

(All that said, Odyssey is out in less than a month so I'm probably bringing this up too late)

How about repurposing the Covert-Ops frigate class?

Well if you look at it, they said you don't need combat ships for exploration unless your going to do DED sites, so Covert Ops are the exploration ships now, I hope this clarifies this for you, but they could give the Combat Recon ships the Ability to uses a Covert Ops Cloak and have a Probe bonus and that could be your DED Exploration ship and leaving the Force Recon to the ability of Lighting Covert Cynosural Fields and being a Black Ops fleet ship like it is now.

I am aware of the Covert-Ops ships (I fly an Anathema) but as it says Covert-Ops frigates are "Designed for commando and espionage operation, its main strength is the ability to travel unseen through enemy territory and to avoid unfavourable encounters."

I was actually thinking more of a role bonus to hacking and archaeology. Having played some of the new exploration stuff on the test server, scanning and probing have plenty of ships, modules, implants and rigs, but only the T1 Explorer frigates have a bonus to hacking and archaeology. And that is what I was suggesting. Something like a +2 to virus strength over the T1's +1, but sacrifices combat capabilities.

A specialised ship as the Venture is to mining and the Noctis is to Salvage.

They could give us a modified echelon or something as a dedicated hacking/analyzing ship. They already have the model and the original was some sort of hacking ship.

If they have to use an existing hull, I'd prefer the Zephyr, elegant and beautiful.

If I'd have to use the Echelon, it better be cloaked. Damn ship is ugly as sin.

If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that?

The Gnosis is the Odyssey exploration ship. Feel free to fit it with as many hackers and codebreakers as you can. And lots of tractor beams!

Save the drones!

i'd guess CCP will want to wait until the mini professions have been finished off and it's all nice and settled on TQ before they will have a serious think behind if there would be a reason to add ships that gave specific bonus' to the professions.

i think asking for this now is probably a bit premature.

It's not as if the mini professions are new or will be going away.

no but they have been completely redesigned. there needs to be time to work out how well balanced they are now, and what bonus' if any would be acceptable to have.

Since the Covert Ops used to have almost the same bonuses as the T1 Scan Frigs, I think this might be in the plans for when they get to T2 frigs. I agree a new hull might be nice, but I would like to have the Hack & Arch bonus of the T1 on my T2. :)

I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.

Like mini drone covert ops ships? lets each ship have some DPS while not being overwhelming.

Howabout the Magnate, Heron, Imicus, and Probe?

Yeah, except that as far as I can tell from the test server, those modules are now passive and don't stack so having 6 is the same as having 1. To be better with the new mechanics you need skills and bonuses, hence a ship.

While I like the Gnosis, it's overpowered for non-combat exploration and only has a bonus to scan strength that would help with finding mini profession sites. There is no bonus for the hacking mini game once you reach a scanned site. Plus the thing will probably end up being a flying target for the likes of goons

There are also Empire mining frigates but CCP still added the Venture.

Actually, there are no longer empire mining frigates.

Really? Damn, sorry, they need to update Evelopedia, using it ruins my arguements.

Were they removed when the Venture was added? What are they now?
