Would this be anything but unanimous? I mean, there are no drawbacks for the end-user, assuming it's completely optional and can be disabled at will.

Well there would obviously be some development costs involved to ensure the client won't break memory limits, development of a patcher to add/remove the textures, etc.

So, this being the eve forums, I'm sure there is at least one bitter sad sack out there who will demand that art team not waste there time on useless visuals when "everyone" plays on minimum graphics anyway, the artist should be fixing sov mechanics instead, lol.

If it's just textures, then it would be minimal extra work anyway. They most likely do highres paints and then scale them down to match the UV maps, and figuring out memory limits and texture density is something they have to anyway. So it'd be: scale down and match highres targets; run batch job to scale down for lowres (retaining the density is just a matter of picking the right scale factor).

Would be nice to have this as an optional download for people who can run it.

Agreed, I certainly don't mean to imply that it would take an expansions worth of work. Development costs would probably not much different than any other bullet point on an expansion feature list. I would wager that the number of players that would take advantage would easily make it worthwhile. Hence the thread to get players to show support :)

This would be great, please do it. Optional would really be key though.

Oh hell yes I wants this!

Also if that single pontoon Rifter could creep in as an option too that would be AWESOME!

I have deliberately developed an air of cynicism that I originally intended to make me appear somewhat louche and caddish but actually comes across as irritable hostility combined with the unspoken threat of sudden violence.....

I support this feature.

Also I support DX11 client, so we can actually get long awaited fix to dust clouds (we wont get any fix while DX9 is still here, as known from roundtable reports)
