Buff to deep core mining skill

Perceived Problem: little reason to train deep core mining above level 2
Proposed Solution: 9% bonus to mining yield of non-mercoxit ore with mining crystals when used with modulated deep core strip miner II's

Reasoning: Looking to give miners a reason to train this skill beyond level 2. Once access to modulated deep core strip miner II's is gained, there's little reason to continue to train this skill. The bonus is suppose to be a reduced chance of damage, but with the range of the module it isn't a factor.

The advantage of this proposed change is convenience. Currently a modulated strip miner II's yield is 360 m3/cycle, while the modulated deep core strip miner II's base yield is 250 m3/cycle. If this was implemented the deep core strip miners yield would rise to a potential 362.5 m3/cycle. This would allow people to mine mercoxit at the current rate, but then give the ability to switch to other ores without having to refit their ship.

I do realize that this would make the modulated deep core strip miner II "the best" mining laser, but with an advantage of <1% max yield I don't think that this will drastically affect game balance. In realistic terms, considering rock size and partially wasted cycles, this will have close to no impact on the volume of ore mined.

Pros
Gives a reason to train deep core mining beyond level 2
Convenience to miners who choose to train a 6x skill to max
A buff, regardless of how minor, to null sec industry
Three-pronged pewpews look neat but are hardly used

Cons
It would negatively affect the demand for modulated deep core miner II's if everyone decided to max deep core mining

/hope this is a not horrible idea

But it is probably the most horrible idea to date. I recommend stop posting!

the problem is; it doesn't really add anything to the game.

No. Just no. Deep Core Miners are for Deep Core Mining. Learn to accept that fact.

hey stupid... deep core mining skill is only for mercoxit... wanna mine mercox with level 2 skill fine, enjoy eating pollution clouds :)

Hey genius any kind of booster will put your laser range put past the cloud area making training past level 2 pointless.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

are u serious? have u ever mined mercoxit? do u mine at all? like really? whats a polution cloud going to do to me 22km away? (if u dont know how i came up with that range, you arent carebear enough to follow this post).

i think this is a great idea. the skill was implemented when miner II's and deep core miners were king. when t2 stuff started coming out. when the range was so close, you would actually be IN the cloud that formed. the interceptor..remember the day?

but now look at it? its useless other than allowing the use of t2 mod strippers in which you only need rank 2 to use.
give it a bonus to output for mercoxit. allow it to use normal crystals at the same rate as a normal modulated stripper.
those high sec carebears wont worry about this skill because they dont do merc. nullies and wh folks would love the ability to throw a deep core mod stripper II on and be able to cut whatever.
or dont give it any bonuses. if yer using a veld crystals, give it the same output as a normal stripper with veld, mercoxit could remain the same. give the module as a whole an increase or something per level or whatever the bonus is (cant remember off the top of my head). if someone wants to train the skill for a universal rock cutter, then let em. if it doesnt affect you, dont post.

there would not be any impact on the ore, simply on a miners ability to cut it and not have to go back to the station for a refit.

The gas cloud radius is 5km from the rock. All strip miners have a base range of 15km, which gets extended to 24km+ with fleet boosts. Any "skilled pilot" in the same belt can avoid the gas cloud damage, which is why raising the deep core mining skill above 2 is currently a waste of time.
