If you meant pure steel plating, you would be correct, but plate armor is so archaic...

You mean these things? Lol

It's likely that the armor plates of EVE Online ships use a form of whipple construction (layers of armor with spaces in between them). This form of armor would be ablative and could be repaired in by an armor repair module. Still... the damage modeling system in EVE Online is rather simplistic.

But then... it is an MMO, and it's very rare for those to include true damage reduction, or deflection in any form.

Yeah, the EVE variant is simplistic.

This is not to say that it sucks or that it requires a dead serious and realistic one. There a thought of seeing some expansion of it projected onto the current version of EVE at the beginning, but that was when I also assumed a seperate game would be better, because pretty much almost every suggestion or concept posted is usally brick-walled by CCP not having the resources; the game's code; ponies; etc.

A change of the damage modelling system would somewhere also ask for an expansion, a revamp or a simply different version of the current weapons of EVE - but that be for another thread and topic. Since I mentioned weapons, I've always been wondering why Amarr lasers deal EM and not Therm dmg as prime - same for KIN not being Minmatar (as EXPL dmg is, usually). But again, different subject.

I must say though, for the simplistic EVE one, I was wondering if a damage model from the UFO:After- series could work. It follows the same (huge) HP bar system, but there are two addition ones that chew on it's green self: Temporary damage (gray), [/i]a red one that I forgot[/i], and black which is permanent damage that can't be healed (Soldier must recover at base for a few days).
I doubt many had played the game, but it might fit to this current version of EVE rather than a seperate game.

The aforementioned system is actually not that complicatedbut aside to explaining it a bit more, but the game would need a bit more complexity and introductions of new and special types of weapons. All could actually be done in a balanced sense.

Unfortunately, I doubt I can find a decent youtube gameplay vid about the example I mentioned.

Using tablet, typoes are common and I'm not going to fix them all.
