I'm new to EVE, I heard about plans for "balance", I really don't know what the developer's plans are regarding this, I was only in 1 PVP fight (with my miner alt - so I have no experience), here is my view, mostly based on Diablo and Wow.

I believe ships (or characters in other games) should be unique, and - the same ships from different races should not be almost equal. This is the wrong kind of balance. Unique ships - that have a bonus for something, give personality to the game. Anyone can get into any ship, so - if players complain for example about a cruiser from one race being weaker than the other races, (or stronger) - it's a mistake to balance everything. It's not like somebody stops them from using the better ship. There should be weak and strong ships and special ships for special roles and crazy fittings. This gives substance to the game. A "standard ship" with no intrinsic bonus that can't be taken away from it, - and it just allows players to modify it how they want, has less personality. Something like the lack of skill trees in Diablo 3.

Well, this is my opinion, mostly based on what I saw in Diablo2, then Diablo 3.

Frankly, you have no idea what you are asking for.

This is not just some MMO, it is a PvP MMO. This means grinding is not a priority nor is it the hunt for objects. What matters is fights between players. A balance here means that one can choose from several available options and achieve a victory with each choice. An imbalance means that only one particular choice (or just a subset of choices) lead to a victory. It is therefore important to make ships equally effective or they will simply not get used and with a lack of use comes a lack of variety and a game gets boring. There are exceptions to this, but they are designed not to influence the balance and only to add more variety and more strategies to it.

Unique are also only the players. Again, this is a player versus player game. Some may choose to skill their characters identical to others, but it is everyone's own choice to make. Most characters are unique. Ships and items can hardly be unique, when they are meant to be destroyed. Anything unique would be lost in only a short time and be pointless to have in a game.

That is roughly it. You need to change your perspective on the game to fully understand it.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Yes I am :)
I started in 2012, played 1 month then quit, I use the character I started then as a miner, this one is new.
I read a lot about EVE, it's very interesting, now I only have to train BC to 5 then some basic skills, then I can finally exit the station, but I'm not in a hurry. Don't have much time to play anyway.

You despise Diablo and Wow? Me too - I mean the new versions. That's why I got interested in EVE, else I would be playing the awesome game D3 was supposed to be.

You're talking about a different kind of "balancing". In Eve, it's not about A vs B type of balancing, it's more about if A1 is used 80% of the time and A2 is used 5% of the time, then something is definitely wrong with either A1 or A2. What happens with B has nothing to do with A.

Balance is waste of developer time in a game that 99% of the time consists of a force that is superior in numbers/skill/wealth, gangs up on a group of people much less prepared and crushes them.

I'm not judging. Just making an observation.

Although he might have been quick on the draw, it is nice to see new players using the forums, when so many in this game do not.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!
