How does one go about joining Live Events?

I gather that they involve a good deal of RP and such. Is it just a matter of joining the in-game channels? Is there somewhere other than this part of the forums that one can find information? Any rules or guidelines that people should be aware of?

I'm somewhat interested but I'd like to educate myself beforehand.

There are two in-game channels:

Live Events - Out of character (OOC) channel. The message of the day has all the information you need. CCP does visit this channel. They also have a mailing list which will keep you updated before and after events. MOTD will also give you intel and an idea of where to be situated so as to not miss an event.

The Summit - The in-game in-character (IC) channel of the Intergalactic Summit sub-forum. CCP frequently visits this IC.

No real rules however there is etiquette. For example using the last event as a guideline. You'd be out of place and intruding on others to join a Caldari loyalist fleet with every intention of shooting at the titan for the sole purpose of getting your name on the kill mail. In context of the game this is a pretty illogical act. But it is within the scope of the game but it would **** off a lot of pure IC Caldari who'd not do such a thing and wouldn't want to taint their fleets reputation.

Thanks for the reply, I'll need to join the channels.

I'm not entirely new to RP but I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything game-specific that I should know, beyond the common stuff.

I didn't think Live Events channel had a mailing list? Some of the groups that use it as a central point do though. Depends which 'side/view' you follow on that though. If any. (As a side note, declaring loyalty is NOT required. Just means you will be treated as an unknown normally)

Hmm perhaps I've confused it with another channel. I've got a mailing list named 'FCORD' which provides me with updates on events.

FCORD isn't the channel mailing list, it's the FCORD fleet mailing list. Who tend to work somewhat on the Humanitarian/CONCORD/Civilian side of events normally.

Not really. The FCORD mailing is overall a "Live Events" mailing list.

Also remember if you are sided with a faction IC you can declare your allegiance and have mails sent from CCP Actors with forewarning to events.

Alright, thanks for the info. I assume declaring a side is done primarily through the thread in this section, but is there anything else one needs to do? I was also curious about naming conventions. Obviously some people have some really awkward names or nicknames and whatnot. Are characters with a nickname and such expected to have a real name as well?

I would make one up just to be safe. But we can still call you "Deadszerong" P

This is still better than certain other alterations that one could come up with :P

Alright, thanks again for the info, folks. I can't think of anything else too specific other than brushing up on some lore and such.

CCP will never disregard you and should your name make the ISD fictional news channels, you won't be omitted from that either.

I've personally had 2 of my characters hit the news at various times... neither have a 'real name' as such, and both were mentioned by their 'capsuleer name'

it's widely believed that many (most) capsuleers choose a callsign when they become a capsuleer... we are hated and feared by most baseliners (planetary populations) and the potential for backlash against our kin should our identities become known is a very real threat.

or at least that's my take on things...

Glad you're interested in the events! As well as the helpful suggestions above (thanks guys!) I would recommend following @EVE_LiveEvents on Twitter. We broadcast all events through that.
