Maybe there are more mature men here than you think. And no, this avatar is not a "boob shot".

Clever! I'll remember that one. I bet it's >90% true!

Space barbies. This alt is used for Jita pricechecks, the forums, and playing dress up. I spent like an hour getting the smirk right, and you can't even see it normally.

lol

of course there are exceptions. but it seems to ring true more often than not. say what you like and people rail against them with great conviction...but, you know, there is a reason why stereotypes exist. not just in this topic but in pretty much all walks of life lol

Yeah, that is the embarassing thing and why my main characters are always male. If a guy creates a female avatar then I don't care, I refer to them as a her. It's amusing when they try to correct you and say I'm actually a guy as if you should have known it. Although a lot of guys probably just roll with it seeing as they have obviously decided to RP a female character. That being said I don't know that many who have a female as their main character.

First, this is my main. All my alts are female too. Why? Girls are nicer to look at, and if all I can do with space barbie is play dress up, I'm not dressing a Ken doll over and over again.

In chat I just refer to the character by the avatar gender, unless the player gets all bent out of shape, in which case I refer to them as "it". In teamspeak, I use the player's gender, since that's what you know.

Honestly...I'm not sure why this is all so hard to understand and requires this much discussion.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

I use the gender of they player when referring to them (if I know it, otherwise the gender of the 'main' avatar, and the gender of the avatar when referring to that.

Example: Is Mike online? does he still have Shirley in Old Man Star? I need HIM to move HER to Rancer.

It just shows how progressive the EVE player base is: Despite the unequal player gender distribution, the character genders have a realistic ratio. The things done for equality. Someone should write a blog about it.

Kinda funny to see a "sexy babe" avatar and in TS or chat she sounds like Barry White

Trolls & flames welcome as always. But some thoughts appreciated as well.

So why did you pick a female character?
I created my character a LONG time ago. Back when there was no WiS and back before gender and race had any bearing other than how your portrait (that you rarely ever saw) looked. Back then nobody had ever suspected we'd be able to walk around with our characters or that they'd ever be anything more than a silly looking picture.

Now that character avatars are in the game, I would like to change my characters gender and blood line. My portrait looked VERY different back then from how it looks now. But when WiS became a reality we were not given the option to do so.

Gutted to find out Cyprus is a dude.
Hottest avatar bar none.
Now I'm all confusedUgh

I never considered playing a female character as a main. I have a hard time respecting men that do. The compulsive need to stare at something cute while engaging in RPGs/MMOs shows some of the most basic lack of self-control. Also, I don't want to be treated kinder for playing a female. The thought of it makes me sick.

I have to agree with Ovv Topik here. There's probobly some deep psychological reason that so many guys choose female characters.
Trying to get in touch with their "feminine" side? A touch of homosexuality? Desperation to have contact with a female, even imaginary?
Personally I like being a man and im not ashamed to have all male characters. Playing as a female character feels weird to me.

Well, it's good to see that you are so comfortable with your homosexual side then.

See how that probability works?

When i was growing up a lot of the games i was playing were gender locked on roles/class.
For example the Amazon in diablo2 could only be played as female.

Did people really miss out on class or roles back then because it some how reflected on them?

My characters are frequently not the same age, race or gender as me. Is it any more bizarre for a Caucasian to play an Asian character? Would anybody seriously think someone playing another ethnicity really hates their own background? Are authors who have protagonist of the opposite gender homosexual? Are players who play pirates in Eve unlawful in real life? This type reasoning is rather absurd since our characters don't necessarily reflect us,

I also tend to agree with many here in regards to Eve women being rather pretty. I have never designed a female character in a Bethesda game since they all look terrible. I am however enjoying the new Tomb Raider release, and got the collectors set which came with the Play Arts Kai version of Lara.

These are our characters and like my friends they span a wide variety of types. I've even caught myself saying "hello" to my characters upon logging on on occasion, since they have personalities which are as different from each other as they are from mine. This last bit might sound a bit schizo, but I have spoken to a few authors who have similar relations to their characters.

I tend to find that people who used to RP a lot (either TT or online) tend to be less hung up on the gender of their character. It's not always true, but I think the experience of having to play multiple distinct roles in a game tends to make one less focused on the physical aspects of the character (unless they are germane to the role being played) and more focused on the personality and mannerisms.

You know, I don't play Eve for the realism. And while I'll never have a fine piece of ass staring me in the face in real life, does not mean I can't have it in Eve. So....most of my alts are female with a gorgeous trunk and huge gazoongas! I may not be all that attractive in real life, but I'm still a man!

I've been doing table top RP, and then text-MU RP, for so many years that at this point all I need is a hook and characters come to me fully formed. Sometimes they're male, sometimes female.

They were all male once, but only because I had that silly idea in my head that men can't play women and vice versa. Once I got over that, gender and sex just became two more aspects of the character, as variable as anything else.

While female avatars are certainly a bit easier on my eyes, I don't try to make them as gorgeous as possible--those efforts seem to result in caricature more often than not. They're designed to look the way I picture them in my head, flaws and all. And their portraits are head shots. ;-)
