Since CCP has not published the news yet, I thought I would let everyone know that the Caldari have won the surface battle on Caldari Prime with the final tally being reported here.

I'm still upset how they didn't let the DUSTies pick a side. Its all random joining.

seconded

Edit: My dustie did passively choose sides.

Every time I fought for the Gallente I gave it my all.

Every time I fought for the caldari, I was as annoying as I could be to my team.
Running into a wall of gunfire, bunnyhopping in front of tanks, standing in front of my teammate's shots, distracting them by shooting them in the back, crashing transports full of other bunnies, etc.

In short: in order for me to pick a side, I had to be a massive **** to my fellow mercs. (very eve style) But not exactly compelling gameplay.

Edit 2: fixed spelling

Exactly but that isn't very liked on FPSes. I would love a "Join random, Join faction a, or join faction b" option on the battle finder. Sure you might have to wait for a minute or two but it would at least be an option instead of being an asshat to people.

Exactly my point, that would avoid me having to be a tool

CCP has stated that the ability for mercs to pick their sides will be coming in the next build.

On a second note, CCP has officially declared that the Provists "maintain a shaky grasp on most districts."

glad they used the term 'shaky' ... with such a small margin if they had said they'd simply won it would have been.... odd.

Not indicative of corporate policy unless otherwise stated.

I wish they would have said more about it. Really a half paragraph at the bottom of an article is kinda an insult.

Caldari hold 52% of the ground and the Gallente 48% based on those numbers. I think, that's parity... not superiority, not supremacy, mere parity...

Caldari Prime Campaign status:
Ground - Rough Parity
Space - Gallente Supremacy

Yeah... umm, I'd say that looks like a Gallente Strategic Victory and a Caldari Tactical one.

They extended the battle today, to give the Gallente one more chance to push into the lead. Results have not been posted as of the time of this post however.

I hope your yanking our chain, I REALLY don't want to have to think CCP is favoring one faction over another.

Surprise surprise, even when the Caldari win they don't "win".

"Oh crap the Gallente didn't win, this isn't how we planned this. Better given them another chance"

All in all, that sounds like serious crap if you are randomly thrown into whatever side with no control and have to resort to team killing.
Extending the event will have no effect at all except give some more people the chance to win that special drop suit.

You do realize that if the DUSTers cannot chose their sides, there isn't really a fight Caldari vs Gallente going on, but random people fighting battle after battle? In fact there will most likely be no other result than a average outcome from a statistical view unless a lot of people start team killing once they end up on the wrong side.

If CCP REALLY wanted to tip the scales towards a gallente victory they could probably examine the success ratio and/or gear of the DUSTers and assign the inept and ill-equipped to the Caldari side all the time while the ones with decent ratios end up on Gallente.

But without a chance to pick sides the excellent player is going to play just as many games for both sides, and in the end everything will sort of even out. I seriously hope they do not have some sort of narration tied to a decisive win from either side, because that most likely will never happen.

  1. The May 6 "Uprising" update for DUST will be bringing the ability to choose sides among other wonderful features.
  2. Friendly fire is not enabled in DUST in the current build(will be on in Planetary Conquest which is also coming in the May 6 update), so players that did try to sabotage, just repeatedly killed themselves or more commonly, simply left the match allowing new players to come in.
  3. The "Battle for Caldari Prime" DUST event, alone, was 4 days long. On top of that, CCP had an earlier Caldari Prime event(post #10 in the link) at the beginning of that same week. Both events gave DUST players these specific dropsuits. That is already more time than anyone had for any of the previous event dropsuits.

Also, the results of yesterday's DUST event still have not been posted...

The Caldari probably won again. Which CCP is trying to avoid. So they'll probably just keep posting these matches until the Gallente win one, and then "there, the Gallente conquered Caldari Prime!"

They did the same thing in the incursions - if the players stopped an attack, they'd just redo it until the Sansha won what they needed for the story. When it's CCP's favorite faction involved, they kick it up to eleven. That's why there were more Gallente Dreadnoughts than there were Caldari capships in total at the CP space event.

IOW, if you aren't Gallente or Minmatar, you're there for CCP to beat the crap out of in their events.

yeah like when they wrote a book that had half of it just being tibus heth invading gallente space and embarrassing the hell out of the federation and totally kicking their asses and parking a titan in their home/staging system that lasted for years. pretty sure that's gallente favoritism.
