Obviously, its so they can show off "Look at this awesome (not laggy at all) event that we are hosting! :D Things like this happen (smoothly) in EvE all the time, NOW SUBSCRIBE!"

There's a hell of a lot of difference between 1000 people fighting, and 2800 people sitting in a station...

Jita is usually around 2200, it only hit 3k for special events....get your facts straight.

Does that number include the DUST Bunnies?

I guess the ISDs are busy playing EvE today.

Also, a new and interesting gripe detected.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

An unreinforced node can handle well over two thousand active pilots, albeit at very high time dilation. A reinforced node can handle over a thousand players much more gracefully. If this was a normal event, I doubt CCP would've bothered capping the number of players.

The node was capped for marketing reasons, nothing more. This event was timed to coincide with PAX, and streamed live, which should be a rather obvious indicator of CCP's goals and priorities. Watching EVE at even 50% time dilation is rather boring, so they chose to make the events look more exciting for outsiders, at the cost of excluding hundreds of EVE players from the event. It's a scripted event anyway, so I don't know why anyone aside from hardcore RPers really cares.

As well, we must bear in mind that the Dust-EVE link can't handle large numbers of players, as Asakai quite clearly showed. Whether it's due to intrinsic server architecture, an oversight, or gross incompetence, having the Dust server go down in the middle of a major publicity event would make CCP look like imbeciles, and so naturally

I am persuaded.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

You do realise that we were down to 11% TiDi less than two minutes into the fight, and that it persisted through the entire course of the event, correct?

11% is light. What is that supposed to prove? The point stands.

Tidi only goes to 10%... as in 1/10th of normal speed. 11% is almost 1/10th normal speed, not 11% slower than normal speed.

The cap was in place to provide a better experience in the system, nothing more sinister than that. We raised it 4 times during the event and at peak had over 2100 in system, but with notably bad lag that TiDi could not prevent. Basically, we didn't want to compromise user experience for numbers.
