The original invasion of Luminaire was five years ago. Back then such a massive event like an invasion would have been almost impossible to run due to the complexity of such a complex event.

i don't know the exact details but from what im told someone decided to spawn themselves T2 blueprints. This was obviously a big no no so that ended the Aurora program.

Actually I believe AURORA would have been as capable as the devs are now. They might have been more numerous too and more spread around the time zones. The main problem with AURORA is that the plot arc would have been told to more people, increasing the chance of a leak. With a guideline how to behave and a general goal I believe the same effect could have been achieved. If I recall right AURORA was under some restrictions that devs are not (must not fire first, must not pod IIRC) but that could be explained away in some way. Besides, shooting first rarely was a problem because many people knew that blue text meant "you can shoot me without CONCORD intervention, and, oh, I have l00t!".

Dev tools have probably improved since then too, back then we were told that spawning NPC ships wasn't really possible (I understood it as "we could do it, but it's a massive PITA"). Or maybe it wasn't done due to rules how to treat players (no points and podding allowed and so on). Don't really know. The Incursion events showed that it IS possible and being done now.

Actually, AURORA actors could not spawn stuff for themselves. I once had a list of their capabilities, their main representative (Some Vice Admiral? I forgot.) explained it all on the old forums and on IRC in chunks. IIRC they got free stuff, but had to ask a dev to get it for them.

The scandals are two seperate issues. One was that a dev spawned T2 BPOs and handed them to his alliance. Might have been BoB, I don't know any more. That's the thing that actually spawned the CSM and had nothing to do with AURORA as far as I know.

AURORA was accused of being partial to certain factions and doing stuff that was deemed offensive or favoring some parties. Usually the folks that didn't get what they wanted out of the event raised a shitstorm how unfair they've been treated. In the end I think CCP decided the benefit it created was way lower than the bad press one or other guy made out of each event.

Examples:
Some alliance accused a Scope reporter to bump their dread just as they were trying to warp, thus causing losses and demanding those back.
There had been two supercap events where the players got to kill the supercap. IIRC both kills happened in NPC nullsec but I am not sure any more. One supercap was T2 fitted, the other faction or even officer. So the guys killing the first one complained that the officer fitted supercap only had those modules because it was closer to (or in?) another alliance's territory and the modules were intended as bribe for that alliance.

Edit: Here, I went to EVE-Search and found one of the old threads so you can judge for yourself.

I wish that were possible, because the sheer awesomeness level of that would dwarf any titan crashing or flying. However I once tried to program something like that into an NWN server I was going to run, and let me tell you, making something that works and is not totally exploitable is really difficult. Even more so in EVE, where finding exploits seems to take up 90% of some people's time.

You'd have to have a programmer stand by to change the server depending on the outcome, and all the work you put into the "losing" side would go wasted. For instance, someone had to create the skybox with the downed titan (if that is what it is). Someone has to write up missions, bookmarks, sites telling both stories, and only one is being used afterwards. That's lost time and lost money for CCP.

There have been some in-game events that changed the world, but it often took weeks or months to actually show. That was a downer for those involved as well.

If you want to be in Gallente space, don't be at war with them.

Simple.

Latest from EVE Insider suggests faction navy will be disabled in the Luminaire system:

"CCP Masterplan has made an additional adjustment for the Luminaire system by disabling the faction navy in the system."

Looks like Caldari militia forces will be able to come in force. Now the Gallente will have a real fight on their hands.
