Is there any way around the Eve launcher?

I just don't see why I should have to launch the launcher and then "click" Play to open the game itself. And then manually close the launcher on top of that.

It wasn't long ago when you just launched the game and that was it.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

Is it that big a deal...

I'm sure you'd complain when your client is the wrong version and "I cant work out why"

No the big deal is that it was added when no one asked for it. Like another "are you sure?" popup in windows.

I'm asking in case there's just some game shortcut that I missed or simple command line that skips it

yes.

also you don't need to start the game from the launcher in order to get the updates.

See the little button at the top of the Launcher Window with the wrench and screwdriver ? That means "Settings.

Once it is open, click the little tab that says "Startup". Check out both options.

Really nifty , huh ?

Kind of unfair to come with a straight answer and all. Here we were due for 5 pages of "go play WoW if launching Eve is too much work for you"

-Thanks

the eve executable is named "exefile.exe" and its located inside \EVE\bin\

just make a shortcut to it, but you will get a prompt every time there's a new patch, that prompt will dl and install the standalone patch, which will take longer than running the launcher and since there's so much attention on the launcher these days its likely that not much QA goes into those standalone patches.

just make sure you don't click yes on that prompt, just exit the client and launch the launcher to patch up. then you can g back to your shortcut.

I remember after Castor when opening Eve opened a tiny mini-launcher. I miss those days.

go to launcher settings, disable launcher.
if this is too hard for you, please return your computer to your nearest distributor. (recommend unplugging it first)

Make a desktop link to "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe"

I keep the launcher around for updates and the occasional repair (never hurts to use a downtime to run a repair to check for any kind of problems with the files).

You will also get more direct answers when you post such questions in New Citizen Q&A or Issues, Workarounds & Localization.

For what it's worth they added the launcher because it allows them far greater flexibility with patching ultimately allowing them to deliver better content to you.

Also a secondary benefit of launcher based apps is that you can run it from pretty much anywhere. I used to keep it on my ipod and could then just plug into various PC's without having it installed on each, which is nice.

I don't get the overly geeky workarounds when the options are right there in the Launcher.

But....whatever.

Simplicity and because they work. It completely avoids the launcher and any problems that it may cause. Under Linux has it got additional problems.
