Yesterday I played pretty much all day with zero issues, today I try and log on and within a few seconds I get a socket closed error. I can't log in for more than a few seconds at a time before I get the error. Just resubbed to this game after a long hiatus, going to be very unhappy if I can't play it now.

Tried playing all 5 accounts to get some mining done, can't stay connected for more than a hour.

So I have stumbled across something that has worked for me the last 2 days with NO disconnects at all..

I have been running Ping Plotter against CCP server IP 87.237.38.200 with the following settings-

Sampling= Unlimited
Trace Interval= 1 sec
Samples to include= ALL

I am running all 3 of my accounts on the same system with no Socket Disconnect problems. But if I try and play without PP running I get disconnected right away.

This is a strange workaround, but at least I can play!

Lirp out...

Also remember to read the following post(s). That specific thread seems to get lost in the winds because there is no official ACK from CCP as you can see from the stickied DEV / CCP posts in the 'Issues, Workarounds & Localization' section of this forum.

Don't bother with the pingers, plotters, pingplotters, torrents, battlepings, swinger...ah, never mind that one, or any other illusionary remedies.

It's EVE Online client + ISP thing and the socket closings come and go. Sometimes it can be a week without them, then you suddenly get so many of them that your client has barely enough time to load the ship hangar, but the net result is that for some people the game is pretty much unplayable.

@Jennam, that thread only specifically mention initial handshake.

After six months of searching articles about the subject every now and then, that's the best one I've found on the seemingly "non-issue" that plagues the 3/\3 client and if you browse along for some more you can see that this is hardly a new issue since it has been going on for years (for those whom had the stamina to keep on playing while ignoring the disconnects). Shocked

@ Jennam

The fact this 'socket disconnect' issue rose exponentially at the same time CCP patched the game, it is also likely something they did to to code to make it much much less tolerant of the very brief packet losses that can occur.

I've managed to reduce disconnects by turning off checksum offloading.
Seems like EVE do not play properly with protocol stack and dive way too deep into things it's not supposed to touch.

As a temporary fix you guys can keep teamspeak, vent, etc connected to any server...Ive had this problem for years... and the only way i could fix it was by keeping my ts online...as soon as i disconect it...my eve online gets the socket error....ive had this error in portugal....and now i have it in russia.....different isps....diferent computers...i think this can be related to your router settings or computer specs....
when u dun make any server calls for a few seconds....i think the router closes the connection.....or if ur in a old computer that cant handle both the game and the internet traffic.....

Softlock freeze has been corrected with the recent patch but the socket disconnect is back bad so bad infact unable to keep logged in or set fleet up. Also noticed on tracert that the connection right after lhr3.uk.above.net is timing out.

aaaaaaaaaaaand what does CCP ^^ giving a ****. "Oh yeah good game we made but half of players cant stay connect, mah not our problem." lack of blue dev posts in this thread is not right get that **** fixed srly!!! its nothing like "oh since last patch" this issue is there since years!

and i am srly pissed about that, i did everything reinstall pc and reset router even call my provider xD but its clearly CCPs fault.

Sometimes, it's better to chew than to speak...
We know it's CCP's fault, while they are fixing it - try the workaround.

Im getting the socket closed randomly, when i dont press a button for more than 30 seconds i get disconected. Im flying through space i get disconnected. Its making the game unplayable. I dont have trouble with any other game. Is there a way i can keep an active connection and not allow the socket to close or is this the issue?

I have found a way that helps me, i used to get socket closed every 20 mins or so but now 6 hours gameplay and none.

I figured that as my connection is not getting to the EVE server i setup a constant PING to the server. Its sending a ping every 50ms and since i started to do that ive not closed.

I think as long as two connections are getting to the server(eve and ping) that if one fails the other can piggy back onto the other and restore connection. Im not saying it may work for everyone but it worked for me.

Let me know if it works for you guys

This can be done free on Mac with the network utility and on PC with command prompt? Im a mac user so not sure but worth a shot if its free.

Its back again after a few weeks or stable connection. it sickens me that CCP have yet to post a reply on this thread, we are all paying customers and deserve a response!
