Is it just me, or have all the live events lately involved freighters? First the Guristas extraction, then Home Guard blowing up those two KK ones, now the refugee freighter fleeing into the Fed.

I mean, I get that a lot of action in the State at the moment revolves around civilians, who in turn tend not to crew warships. I get that. A little variety would be nice, though.

Also, can the US TZ get some love once in awhile? I keep getting home after events wrap up, and I'm on the East Coast. Pirate

When you need to transfer a lot of stuff, generally you use a freighter. Smile

In terms of US timezone events, there are a few on the schedule and there have been a few in the past. Right now we're very much in the process of practicing how we plan and work live events. There have been a few live events on the schedule that were very late euro/early US, and there are a few more still to come.

In the same respect, we recognize the need for more and are working toward it once we're a little more practiced in how to run these things Big smile

My complaint with freighters is that they are very hard to defend. You (Being any attacker, could be CCP, Goons, or the normal crew depending which way around) can just pile alpha onto them in a classic gank manner. Or just sheer DPS since they don't have decent resists (comapred to a properly fitted ship) so repping them against heavy DPS is going to be very hard to start with.
So we in general need a better toolset to protect a single target ship. Simply piling reps onto the ship and praying they don't have enough alpha to ignore your reps really isn't an ideal method.

A positive side though to Freighters is how slow they are. Due to some confusion about where the LE was taking place at today and where the Freighter was, by the time there was concrete information a number of people were 7-10 jumps away and had to chase after it. Yet....it's a freighter! So there was oppertunity to move to intercept/assist. While I do not think anyone managed to catch up to the Freighter specifically, many people arrived in Algogille in time to see and take part in the Event. For those who missed it, this is a transcript I managed to catch. Auvier Bauvon being head of the Federal forces and commanding the State forces.

Also, couple other things about the event. From an outside perspective I think this went over well. There were a couple Caldari Milita who tried to join the fight but quickly found the response from Federation sentries. However that is a problem that will be unavoidable as long as events are in High. Which, considering the alternative is having it in low and having 300 null sec people cyno in, I think is a decent trade off. At least on occasion.

(Maybe force an Incursion to spawn in a constellation where you are going to do a Lowsec live event to cyno jam? :) Just a thought.)

I think over all people are pretty ok with the outcome of the event. Not only were the Caldari decidedly in the legal wrong, but also tactical wrong when they sorta parked their ships right up a dozen Navy Mega's blasters.

In real life wars and troop evacs they have used cruise liners to move personal around the world. Why not repurpose that gallente cruise ship you see in the odd missions (i assume it isnt actually a flyable ship at the moment so i realise work would have to be done to get it into this state, but the model etc already exists)

This ship could have a polaris skill requirement, meaning that nobody else could ever fly it, and you could tweak the show info tab to be classified allowing you to tweak the stats of the ship

Work would be required by other departments to make this happen, but if they put it in place sooner rather than later surely the benefits will out weigh the time required

Could it not be done using thin clients, after all i assume you would need them all, or a group of them, to do a set task of move from A to B.

If not possible, ill volunteer me x 3

Why not a Deep Space Transport?

Good resists and a pretty massive cargohold if fit with all expanders and rigged. Mastadon & Bustard especially since you can shield EHP tank them & use all your lows + rigs for expanders.

How about handing out useless goods and ask people to move it to some low/null systems as a event? Pick a incursion destination so its cyno jammed and watch them run ^^

He beat me to the punch, but yes - wouldn't that allow the creation and control of convoys by devs?

Thinclients are not something we would consider using for an event on TQ. They are a testing tool and are fragile.

We have used DSTs in one or two events before. Different ships help with different pacing of events. As has been pointed out above, freighters tend to give people the chance to "catch up" which is nice. Creating new ships isn't something we can do solely for the events team at the moment.

Why, is there some rule that says CCP themselves can't use bot programs?
