OP's Note: I no longer totally agree with my own Post Below, but will leave it here for observation and conversation. Following discussion elsewhere, I've come to understand why the characters are being portrayed in this way. Keep up the good work CCP.

Has anybody noticed that the very characters ours are supposed to respect are quickly falling victim to low class mudslinging and chestbeating?

I'll take the recent contributions by Admiral Visera Yanala, who's posts could basically be summed up as "I'VE BEEN IN THE NAVY FOR EIGHTY YEARS, YOU SHOULD ALL LISTEN TO ME". I'm sorry, but screaming about her service record no less than three times (and yet again in another post) does not edify the character.

This character should be well aware of the fickle lack of discipline the Independent Capsuleers have. She should be aware that her posts as they are, are about as effective as screaming at a brick wall. Demanding respect from the capsule community doesn't earn any of us a lick of it. I can't imagine why somebody who works for CCP would assume it would earn the Admiral it.

Furthermore, somebody who's been walking around for 80 years in the first place would seem to me to be far less likely to engage in the pointless chestbeating seen on the IGS. Even less so somebody who's been a military servicewoman for those 80 years. But maybe I'm just stereotyping. In short, I think Admiral Visera Yanala's posts make her look ridiculous and non-immersive. She comes off as somebody insecure and begging for attention and recognition of her service record, instead of somebody with a strong and confident personality that doesn't need some dirty egger's validation or opinions.

I feel like there is a slightly backwards status quo when (I think) my own character's press releases are more carefully worded, less inflammatory, and better handled about replies than a factional leader's are.

What do you expect from a Hethist clinging to any possibility of relevance in her sunset years? :)

I think the Admiral holds her own nicely, and she does seem more coherent than I imagine someone like, say, Göring, might have been "toward the end."

Nailed it.Blink

Although to be fair, she's one of the most experienced and battle hardened commanders in the Navy, along with being a Patriot to the core.

It's less about her saying "look at me, look at me" and more about her being arrogant enough to say "I've been in this game longer than you've been alive sunshine, I've been there, I've done that, when you've done the same, you'll be relevant. Until then, get in line."

If that is "Patriot" to the core then I guess I misread the State of the Caldari State from three years ago.
