A Bug? Worth re-petitioning? Wall o' Text

Hey.

In the last few weeks of my playing EVE I happened to lose 3 pods and 2 ships due to EVE server not "registering" my docking request, even though I got the "docking request acepted line". That cost me around 400 mil ISK which is not a small amout for someone like me who is playing EVE for less than 4 months.

So what happened was, I petitioned my first two ship+pod losses and of course I recieved a big "NO" as an answer when I asked for a reimbursement. I was frustrated because it was not my fault for those losses which I would avoid if everything worked as it's supposed to.

So today I get my faction ship (86 mil or so worth) destroyed due to my own carelessnes and I find myself in a pod. As a few times before I spam warp to nearby celestials, my pod gets away and I warp back to a station where I want to dock and it says docking request acepted. My pod goes poof and there I am in a station in a fresh clone.

I pondered how to avoid this and briefly mentioned this to my corpmate on TS and what he asked me was: "did you alt tab after you got the docking request acepted?".

Hell yes I did. Then he told me it's a bug, if you alt tab just when you click dock and get the docking confirmed it wont dock you unless you alt tab back.

Can someone else confirm this? I alt tab all the time and I often noticed that sometimes when I alt tab ships don't do what I order them to do. But I haven't connected this to docking.

Is this a known bug?
Is it possible to fix this from my side?
Would it be worth writing another petition with this information included? Because these losses really hurt my wallet and enjoyment the game.Sad

It's been happening for awhile now. You need to work around it, preferrably by not tabbing out when you're trying to dock. CCP only reimburse stuff in extreme circumstances (or apparently if you lose a supercap as the rumour goes). They won't even replace stuff if someone hacks your account & steals it, so good luck getting your cheap ships back.

Docking takes time. In this time you can be destroyed.

Also, smartbombs don't need any locks.

You are still vulnerable until your ship actually docks. Tabbing out during this process will delay docking.

But is that a bug? Was anything official said from CCP?

If only there was a subforum, a wiki or an internet where you could see this information. Try this.
Another thing to know is CCP will only reimburse a ship loss if their logs show an issue.

This happened to me as well. Told my Tengu to dock, was in warp to station, and locked my computer because real life happened. Came back a few hours later in a med clone.

Turns out my ship never docked and just sat there in space for 30 minutes until this happened: http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_related&kll_id=15270788

I petitioned, but was denied reimbursement (which I didn't really find surprising). I ate my loss and moved on.

You couldn't wait the 30 seconds till you saw your ship dock then log off?

It's surprising just how few people even think about making those....still it's good for the implant market when you instapop pods / shuttles etc on a station at the usual warp to landing spots.

I would have if I thought there was any reason my ship wouldn't dock.
The system was entirely empty, I knew for a fact that I had hit D, I was nullified, uncloaked, and knew that I had docking rights at the outpost in question. Aside from the bug which I knew nothing about, there was no reason my ship wouldn't have been able to dock.

I learned about it the hard way. **** happens, games aren't perfect. I'm not complaining, just saying that I've seen this before.

It would be great if we got a word from CCP. If it will be fixed, or it will not to be fixed cause of certain reasons. Why wouldn't they reimburse when it's obviously not anything on my side. Of course their logs don't show anything if alt tabbing between clients cancels (delays?) the command that was sent.

This is actually an issue for people like me who constantly run 2 clients and don't have the luxury of 2 screens and have to alt tab all the time. With the losses up to now cause of this thing I could almost pay for a plex.

It's not a common issue but atleast some warning would be nice.

P.S. still don't know why people talk about bookmarks to 0m when what here is discussed is a different thing alltogether

There is also an issue using shortcuts for warping docking and jumping. Sometimes there is a huge delay between clicking the button and the command being actioned, other times I have to mash the button for it to work and its not a keyboard fault either.

Just out of curiosity, does this occur in windowed mode? I pretty constantly move between windows, and I've never seen this, but I play in windowed mode. If it doesn't that would be an easy way to avoid it without sacrificing much of anything.

This is actually not an issue. If you don't have half a minute to make sure your pod docks safely you shouldn't be running two clients on one monitor.

Guess you shouldn't alt tab during docking and spam the 'd' key.

Don't play fullscreen would be my advice! Removes the need to alt-tab, and thus should solve the problem.

Thanks for pointing it out though. Always good to help others avoid the same fate.

Also keep in mind that every time a GM gets to type "NO" into a reimbursement request the quantity of available tissues and hand lotion laying around their office goes down a tiny bit.
