what are your thoughts and feelings about photo manipulation? is it justified, or is it an affront to the art form? also consider that when a moment passes, the chance to capture it disappears forever...

Post-processing in Ps is just like post-processing in the darkroom, and I really don't mind either. There's a category in 1x known as "creative edit", and although I do not like most of the photos in it, it's not because they have been altered, but because they don't look real.

Regarding the moment thing, a very popular street photographer (Henri Cartier-Bresson) once said that he always waited for the decisive moment; that moment when you don't know if you should take the photo, but you feel you should.
