1. if i increase my "base sensor strength" (probe strength), will i be able to identify what type of a signature (by getting to 25%) earlier in the scanning procedure?

2. are unrated complexes worth running? .... or do most explorers just bypass these looking for rated complexes?

1) yes. Higher sensor strength increases the assurety, and on occasion will return, say a 26% instead of a 24%, so you get the type on a scan you otherwise would not have.

2) I do not run them. I don't know if others do or not. I also don't run L2/L2 missions, which is basically what these are equivalent to.

Yes.

Depends on the plex and the random number generator.

thanks for the reply....would you elaborate a little on "depends on the plex"?

i am using this ^^^ as a reference on unrated complexes --- but what should i look for in the different site descriptions that would determine whether it may be worth running?

maybe just point out a couple of this list that may be worth it so i can look at them and may be able to determine why it would be worth it....

Hi, when I do exploration in a probe ship, like a Heron, I tend to do mag sites and radar sites.

You could consider these as being simple sites as there will be some form of defence by NPC rats.

If you are using a Heron or something similar, I'd advise against going up against proper complexes as these can end badly for you.

If you want to do proper sites, go for a ship like a destroyer or cruiser to have the upper hand on the rats.

Good hunting.

Drone sites are generally terrible. Watches and Vigils occasionally drop ship blueprints and implants.

Go for DED, unrated and radars, the rest generally isn't worth your time.

Funny you should say that, I found three BPO's from mag sites worth a total of 30 million ISK.

Then again I've not had the same luck since.

They are usually better than rated complexes ( at least in lowsec ) if you know how to blitz them.
You also have a good chance of getting faction spawns along the way, which can drop additional pirate modules and implants.

Loot :

Provisional Outpost = DED4 ( cruisers sized c-type modules ) + cruiser faction rats
Outpost = DED6 ( cruiser sized a-type modules + pirate cruiser BPC ) + cruiser faction rats
Minor Annex = DED6 ( cruiser sized a-type modules + pirate cruiser BPC ) + battlecruiser faction rats
Annex = DED7 ( battleship sized c-type modules + pirate battleship BPC ) + battleship faction rats

From personal experience : I found more in unrated complexes than I did in rated ones.

Remember there are a number of ways to increase the scan strength.

1. The right ship: for you the 'Probe' increases with each level of 'Minmatar Frigate' trained.
(From there you progress to the CovOps, then T3 cruiser.)

2. The four Astrometric Skills obviously.

3. The 'Sisters Core Probe Launcher' adds to the bonus, and is well worth the investment.

4. Rigging the ship with 'gravity capacitor upgrade'.

It all adds up.
