New Eden Open Prizes at Risk?

The above article speculates that Own3Dtv is going to close down. I'm assuming this means CCP are unlikely to have received the prize money for the tourney, but confirmation would be nice. If there is no prize money coming from Own, and if CCP wasn't going to pay real cash (which isn't unreasonable in the circumstances) I was just wondering where that left us as prize winners? Please, could someone from CCP give us some comfort over this? Will there be any prize at all outside the medal and plex?

Many thanks.

ps. If there really isn't any cash, any chance of a new ship type pls ? Big smile

I thought CCP was paying the prize money?

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

No, the prize fund was from Own, CCP covered the production costs.

Good riddance. There was a lot to dislike about own3d.

1) Their steams did not work on linux
2) Their adverts were frequent and with no variety
3) They were SLOW. So slow. By comparison I watched the fight yesterday on twitch.tv in 1080p and it streamed flawlessly.

I hope the winners of the NEO get their money. NEO was a good idea, but it wasn't promoted very well or held at a very good time (and the rules were a bit random). If the next one improves on any of these points though I'll probably watch it :)

I've not used twitch or own enough to have preferences either way, and it's always saddening when a company goes to the wall leaving people behind holding the ****** end of the stick through no faults of their own.

But my primary question was directed to CCP and it really would be nice to have some indication of how ****** the stick is that the NEO prize winners are left holding. So, please CCP, can you shine a little light on this?

It would be nice, even if CCP didn't get anything money wise, if they could reward each character with plexes worth their share (maybe rounded up, as it's a little bit annoying we've waited this long, and got this).

The NEO wasn't a "worthless tournament" either. IF you think it is, that's great. It was great fun, great fun to be part of, and I'd do it again in a shot. Hopefully CCP can work something out with twitch.tv and we can keep it going next year.

Cheers

I watched it.
therefore by definition it cannot have been "unwatched".

Initially this tourney didn't appeal to me it must be said, but it turned out to be an absolutely brilliant event to participate in, every bit as nerve wracking and challenging as the alliance tournaments I've flown in. On top of the usual issues we then had to deal with a limited pool of pilots to draw on from the outset, a very tight point restriction (which only served to make it even more fun and challenging to come out with good setups) and then there was the tactical ship banning which brought a whole new level to selecting teams at the point of the fight.

All in all it was a brilliant tourney to fly in and it's just a shame that this shadow has been cast over it. I really hope that another sponsor can be found to continue this tourney format, and also that we might still get a prize of some sort this time round.

This gentleman speaks the truth on all levels.

It might take a bit but I have little doubt CCP will sort out something fair for the winners.

I myself am not familiar with twitch but I've heard that it is highly regarded... I don't think many would object if they can work out something wtih them.

Considering how many streamers have been shafted by their shady business practices, I can't say I'm surprised. Sucks that CCP has to be caught in the fallout.

They wont spill the cash, if ccp don't already have it to give to us they wont get it.

There are "partnered" streamers that do a subscription based fee, something like $5 a month for people to view their videos, with the streamer getting a certain % of the fee. Read storys recently of people not being paid for a good 5-6 months, so i can say with almost certanty unless ccp fork it out themselves there wont be a cash prize.

This doesnt bother me at this point to be honest, it would be nice. But i've waited so long on ccp pulling the finger out and actually orginizing getting it out to us (sorry if that sounded cheeky, but it doesnt take this long to work out diffrent area's conversion rates and tax etc etc, please don't insult my intellegance) that at this point i'd just be happy with a couple plex to compensate.

Had no one considered the irony of their name?

Would it have been clearer if they'd named themselves "Pwn3d"?

I know that's how I felt when trying to use their streams and archived videos the days after.

(FWIW, I enjoyed the tournament itself, but disliked Own3d all around)

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

you should keep in mind that user experience for these streaming sites varies a lot depending on which region you are trying to access them from.

for a long time (until well into last year) twitch.tv/justin.tv was hardly usable for HD streams in Europe (laggy, black screens, ...) and own3d.tv provided a much better experience.

on the other hand American viewers often seem to have a bad experience using own3d.tv
