Mixing snakes and slaves

I see a lot of people who buy sets of implants (slaves, snakes, crystals, etc), but has anyone ever thought about the viability of mixing? I thought about it while looking at a ship like the Wolf - having a little extra speed with snakes along with a little extra armor from the slaves, seems like it would be pretty nice, at least for this specific ship. However, Minmatar seems to have a few ships that could benefit from such a mix as well.

Sure, you're not going to get the most out of each mixing like that, but has anyone used them like this with success?

The main benefits of pirate implants come from the set bonus - the bonus each implant gives to the other implants bonuses. If you're mixing and matching pirate sets, you're sacrificing that huge benefit. I can't think of a situation where you wouldn't be better off with all implants of one type (snakes or slaves) and then altering your fitting to get the other traits you want - such as a plate for more armor, and snakes to make up the speed penalty.

I don't see how a mix of sets could ever be better than having a complete set and making use of the full effect of having a complete set.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

This, although I will point out that you are usually better off designing your fit to augment the benefits of your implant set instead of trying to balance it out. That plate, for example, negates some of the advantage you paid so much for with that snake set. You'd be better off in that case (usually) setting up your fit to make an outstandingly fast speed tanker instead.

Then you're still better off to take the plate, the speed penalty and a slave-set for even more armour.
