it is a bt and above.net issue, if u are on bt infinity then u will most likely be having issues. it seems like there has been a problem with packet loss between bt and above.net which handle most of the traffic out of the uk. this is not eve onlines issue. at least not all of their issue

^^ this.

CCP have no problems with their peer, otherwise everyone would have problems, it is limited ONLY to BT subscribers on Infinity. BT needs to get a better peering partner or this will continue.

I'll certainly be considering swapping my ISP at the end of my contract in six months. In the meantime, if people are having problems, a solution is to install spotflux, running that, and then launching eve, I have no problems aside from an increased latency.

This isn't just a problem for people using BT as their ISP. I'm in the US and my problem comes when it jumps across the pond and lands at telia.net, 3 jumps through them and instant **** connection = socket error. Did CCP change the handshake or what with the patch on the 21st? I've had intermittent problems but after the patch I'm lucky if I can stay connected for more than a hour with about 25 disconnect/socket errors.

I'd love to see this fixed but if not I have plenty of things on Steam to play.

Same problem here today, both my Dust and EVE keep dying painful death, EVE disconnects a few mins after login (when it lets me), forums are slow and unresponsive for both EVE and Dust.

ISP: BT (Infinity)
Location: England - Sheffield
Speedtest: 41Mbps down 11Mbps up 22ms ping (worst results)

Everything other than EVE and Dust is working Youtube, TS the works... anything other than what I want to be doing.

Being honest this is beyond ridiculous now, an intermittant problem thats been going on for a small small minority of players for over a year.

It's not just a British ISP, I connect from elsewhere in Europe with the same issues.
It *could* be a routing issue but not restricted to a local ISP.

This problem seems to be far reaching both in time and scope - I've read through this forum and for some people the issues date to years ago, and across continents. I've only recently started playing, but I am very familiar with MMORPGs. They are all similar in the sense that they do not care one bit about the input of the users until they start leaving. If they begin to see an exodus of paying customers, they start to respond. This thread alone goes back more than six months and there hasn't been a response from a dev since the beginning.

Simply put, they don't care. Either they know its a problem on their end and it's too expensive to fix, or its an issue with the network backbone through the host country, or they're too busy trying to implement the ambitious Dust project and are too wrapped up in that to fix this. So, knowing that it isn't an issue on my end (not possible since it's happening to many people across many countries) I'm going to pack up and go home. I know I haven't invested the time and energy into this game that some of you have, and it's particularly hard if you have multiple accts with hundreds (thousands??) of hours invested in them, but CCP will not care what you think as long as you continue to pay for this service. When people stop paying, they start listening! Take your money to another MMO - it's being wasted here!

This is getting pretty ridiculous. I keep getting an insane amount of closed sockets, this has been going on for months and increasing in frequency. I live in the US so this is not an issue with BT for me.

Greetings Jerricho,

We have thoroughly investigated the loss of your ship. I understand such a loss can cause frustration, but we unfortunately cannot find any indication in our server-side information of any network or server related troubles around that time that could be the reason in the case of your loss. Lacking this verification we are bound by our reimbursement policy which stipulates that we can only compensate through verification, we cannot do so in this case. I do hope you will be able to recover from this loss as quickly as possible, and if you have any other questions or concerns feel free to contact us again.

Best regards,

some styles of play such as mining or trading, your not really risking your pod or ship and most cases your not risking much as a mission runner. In malitia of your in enimy high sec systems just stopping to enjoy the view will find you is a serious combat situation with NPC's aswell as unfriendly malitia doing their best to end you and your pod.
Getting a "socket has closed" error is a certenty that you will lose your ship. You can't quickly reconnect and save your ship, that is from my experience you can't connect with any CCP resourse such as EVE web pages or even a kill board.
That makes this "socket has Closed" error a game breaker for my style of play. unless it is given the attention a serious connection issue needs, I see no reason on waisting good money on accounts for a service that is broken.

Getting them as well, they started in the last few weeks. Non BT UK customer. It's quite annoying to say the least. Especially yesterday.. Had a couple of younger chars along for the ride in a L4. I warped out on the Socket Close, they.. died. :/

I was doing traceroute tot www.eveonline.com and had eve running on the background. When I did see the traceroute I did get the following picture: (now hope the link stuff works)

Eve online ping

I also had a closed socked when I switched back to eve.

Was this a coincidence and does the line 10 of the packet loss has nothing to do with it or is it a possible reason for socket closed?

Thanks,

I am in the states and I too have the problem. What really sucks is when the problem exists, I can immediately START a stream (non-buffered) but eve won't let me play. The socket closes when I click on a character. It is ALWAYS post authentication.

I was also having this issue. I tried restarting my laptop, modem, and router, none of that helped. I realized I began having the problem after I started using steam. I opened task manager and steam was running in the background. Ended that process and havent had the error since.

Can somebody else verify that Steam is causing Close Socket errors?

Been having connection issues all day. I usually have Steam running, never had issues before.

I have turned off Steam now and testing to see if I am going to get disconnected.

However, it has done nothing to stop the issue.

I ended the Pando background program and seem to be having some luck staying connected now. Will update.

I have to echo this. I'll just be sitting (in a station, in a wormhole, etc.)--one account open, two accounts (it doesn't matter)--the client will become unresponsive and I'll get a socket closed error. This seems to be happening MUCH more frequently since the launch of Retribution.

I live in the US, so it's not a BT issue for me, either, but it is VERY irritating and borderline ridiculous how frequently these are occurring.

I already posted in my own thread here with more details (even explicit problem servers):

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=200800&find=unread

For me the issue started last night, before that i found the service stable. Less then a week ago I added 4 accounts, it should not be hard to imagine how frustrating this network (+code?) issue is to me. These new accounts expire in just under a month and will stay expired unless i get the idea i can play stable.

At the moment there is nothing i can do in game, except maybe a little PI and not even that very well as i got to pick up stuff at some point! Just logging my accounts on, and forming a fleet takes about the same time as the next disconnect occurrence! I do not like the game:

logging on, repeatedly online!

I am serious!

That sound like a router issue TBH, I used to have an issue like 6 or more years ago, where i would disconnect every hour (exact). After playing around it with this knowledge I updated my router firmware back then, which solved it. Some routers do have time critical bugs that can cause this sort of thing!

I am serious!

I am on the East coast. I have Verizon Fios at the top tier level.

basically my character that hangs out in Jita gets socket closed quite often, however my other clients stay up just fine it seems.

My ISP is pretty great I have never had an issue with it and its pretty ridiculously fast overall. The fact that this issue only happens to me on one client, and that client in jita, would also steer me more away from thinking it is my isp.

Perhaps it is some issue with multiple clients period and not just jita however?.

One indication of this happening I have noticed is when I click on any of the information screens - such as character information, contracts etc, IF part of it does not open or opens incorrectly(blank black screen), I know I will be disconnected shortly after that occured. That is across any account that I notice it.

** FFS literally got a connection lost socket closed while typing this on only 1 of my running accounts. again the one in Jita
