o/ Everyone, I hope i am in the right forum, It seemed like the logical place.

A couple of friends and I that play eve where wanting to Make a video based on the Eve universe, We are all 3d modelers and Animators , And i was curious, I know its possible, but is it legal to use the actual Models from The game client? Or if there is a place to find them for fan made videos.

So i guess my question is, If its legal, how do i go about finding the models.

Any help and info would be appriciated

Wether it's legal to use these models would be up to CCP. So I suggest you contact customer-support or wait for a dev to reply to this topic. About finding these models... You could have a look here (this is for Windows 7): C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\i_program_files_(x86)_ccp_tranquility\cache\ships

This is an hidden directory on your pc which seem to contain 3D-models. It contains files with the .gr2 extension, which seem to come from a program called Granny 3D. There are also files with a .BLACK extension, for more info about that you could have a look here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1553000 - check post #101...

I haven't tried opening any of these files yet, and next to that Granny 3D seems to be quite hard to get.. However you could try experimenting some with these files. Also, having a look at the .STUFF files in your EVE installation folder seems to contain some interesting paths (when opened in Notepad++), the question remains though where these paths lead to. But I guess they lead to some database/ftp located on CCP's servers... These .STUFF files seem to be partially encrypted though so I doubt if that information is of any help.

I've been able to get hold of this Granny 3D, with this app you can see the models however they are without textures. I suppose this .BLACK file either is an encrypted version of the textures or an encrypted file stating where the textures should be loaded from.. Whatever this is, it's encrypted so good luck decrypting them :p It seems Granny 3D is also a plugin for, for instance, 3D Studio Max. I'll try that out as soon as I've downloaded it. I suppose this would make it able to edit the meshes, adding textures to them etc.
