So, DUST is now officially on TQ

Considering that this new angle to EVE had a novel's worth of fanfare not a few months ago, can we expect some DUST related live events?

Immortal soldiers just dropped onto hudreds of worlds, so I think theres plenty of stuff waiting to happen :P

There's a lot of planning in the works, but we're not really in a position to release any information just yet.

Nothing like this has ever been attempted before in the gaming industry, with regards to cross platform, cross game live storyline events, so we have to be sure that we get things right.

Just tell me this. Dust Dev's do have "Actor" tools for Dust 514. IE: can play Dust 514 as part of a pirate corp toons.

Oh I do hope so. So many options with just that alone ;-)

I guess the problem is coverage. In a match-based environment, how does one ensure adequate coverage of the events. It's an interesting question with a few positive answers that we will surely be deliberating over in months to come.

Contracts, talking in local and out of game media's.

eg. Sansha attack a planet.
Hints given on twitter, eve, and FB. (day before maybe?)
In character peep start chattin in system local "the sansha are coming, the sansha are coming".
Then they attack "fleet battles etc, bombardment you name it".
Corp contracts etc pop up in dust calling to repel the invaders.
pew pew pew
????
profit.

It wont take a lot of coverage before most everyone knows. There is already a lot of chatter between eve n dust and the channels are already open to eve.

Edit: PLAYER COMMUNITY!! Thats what im trying to get at!
We're all worse than a bunch of biddies round a whiskey bottle. Tell 1 person and soon enough there'll be titans on the field.

We have no problem with channels to attract people to a Live Event, the main issue is that unlike EVE where as many people as we want can join in, DUST battles are fixed to a specific size, and therefore only a given number of people are able to experience what's going on. The main concern is how do we relay the experiences of those few to the many, but in the same respect we're speaking a lot about it, and working things out that will hopefully be sweet :)

With the Nation live events they usually revolved around planetary invasions, and seeing as how the planets in eve have more then one district you could set up multiple games on the one planet. That way you can have more people playing and getting involved.

The event in Vellaine involved DUST people on the ground. Unfortunately, they were literally just herded onto the planet. Anyone joining a 'quick battle' would end up on the planet in question doing a contract for either of the sides, without really knowing or feeling any need to know what is going on.

I realize that they're 'mercenaries' and 'fight for the highest bidder' but in reality they just poosh butan and fight quick battles without giving much of a **** one way or the other. Which, you know, makes total sense from their point of view considering how it's set up.

I feel like you guys at CCP really need to let this 'mercenary' thing go and let DUST people immerse themselves more in the universe, like for instance actually picking a side in FW instead of just fighting battles wherever, and letting them know they're involved in live events when they actually are. Because, well, that's cool. And stuff.

Introducing Live Events to DUST is going to be a slow and measured process to make sure that we get it right Smile

Well, one way of encouraging enough activity and exposure inside the fixed limits of DUST battles is to develop the live events into something of a campaign. Bear in mind I don't have a PS3 so I have little real clue of what DUST is like, but wouldn't it be possible to trigger similar events and objectives across multiple sectors on a planet?

For example a Rogue Drone Landing could involve dropships landing in a dozen sectors or maps in DUST. These would show up as somehow differently flagged for Dustbunnies, encouraging them to take part in the battles in those sectors. Then, based on performance (or lack thereof) the event progresses and opens up more sectors "adjacent" to the current ones, with more matches showing up for players, new objectives, and all the while pushing the event along. Taken to conclusion this sort of process could lead to a Risk style "campaign" across the planet to protect, liberate, or purify sectors and end the Rogue Drone Landing.

Of course the big problem with this approach would be actually keeping it as a "live event." If the scope of the process starts to include dozens of sectors and DUST matches...you'd end up either tying up a lot of Dev time playing around in those areas directly, or having to rely on some heavily scripted event progression and lots of AI.
