Login screen attempts gank of vid card

I logged out of game and went AFK. Came back after a couple of hours to find my vid card fans screaming in pain, apparently their thermal hardeners were out DPS'd by the login screen. Logged in and the screaming abated. WTH is with the login screen that is should be so hard on vid cards?

Anyone else run into this?

I will have to check it out when I get a chance. Start up eve then walk away from the computer for 10 minutes or so. I've never seen this problem since I'm either logged in or out of eve and not afk at the log in screen.

The Inferno login screen was far more recourse intensive. Strange... it shouldn't be doing anything but rendering that movie.

Bring back the Incarna login screen! It was badass.

I used to have the same effect on the Inferno login screen. I learned to either quit the application or log in; no sitting about at the login screen.

I really have no idea why CCP would create such a resource-intensive login screen.

Log-in screen, clouds, those missions with a gazillion small structure in them...

There's lots of stuff that makes your gfx-card cry, for no apparent reason.

Check your Preset Interval settings on your Display & Graphics configuration tab. Due to how little there is to render, your frames per second can skyrocket and overwork a video card in a way that isn't related to sheer graphical load.

Here's an example of what the Login Screen fps can be, with Preset Interval set to Immediate: http://i.imgur.com/t7S5x.png

I recommend setting your Preset Interval to One (capping your game at 60 fps) and see if this solves the issue.

First its "i cant mine without being ganked...waaaaaaaaaaa" now its "I cant log on without being ganked.....waaaaaaaaaaa". whats next? "I cant wake up without feeling like im going to get ganked.....waaaaaaaaaaa"?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately already set to One

Unfortunately Preset Interval set to One or Default wont affect videocard overheating in some cases. I never noticed overheating in login screen, but my card is melting each time there is some gas cloud or drone structure on the screen.
I'll be happy if CCP will add option to turn the clouds off someday.
Seriously, why redo sound system in EVE if I cant hear anything but sound of screaming GPU cooler? Twisted

On the other hand, CCP planned to completely remove 3d login screen for more than a year now.

If people's video cards are being overworked by a simple login screen they do have a pretty valid complaint.

I have a feeling there's more at work here though, seeing as very few people have had such a problem. If they had we'd undoubtedly have had more threads about it - remember the threads about CQ overloading graphics cards?

Yes, I notice my computer works much harder at the loading screen than any other time. I don't think it's just the graphics card, either. I'm not sure. Also set at interval one already.

In this case it might also depend on the case and video card the OP was using. I could only imagine an old laptop sitting on the carpet lol.

I remember seeing another post like this a while back. CCP responded in it, but cannot remember what the response was. Was some technical garble.

This is most likely the case, I am not even sure how it would even be possible to melt a GPU by using a program, even searching for "autodesk melt gpu" didnt return any results.
