because what would it provide? the orca already provides enough high slots for all of the gang links, and has massive cargo space. you'd have to give up one for more of the other. giving up boosts for cargo is called a freighter, giving up cargo for boosts is called a rorqual and you don't even have to give up cargo for the extra boosts.

there's simply no niche that can be filled by a t2 orca.


Well.that's your opinion,

A T2 orca could have the following:

* 5 high slots with upto 4 ganglinks
* larger drone bay upto 300 m2
* ability to house fighting ships in maimtance bay
* 5 mid, 4 low's
* mining bonus on par with rorqual

You can always justify a T2 variatant of a ship, it just depends on whether CCP agree with your vision.

First of we have to consider what the Rorqual is for...

Its to provide null sec mining fleets a logistics base to operate from and allow for the effective transport of ores into highsec without the need for sill numbers freighters.

Especially considering the dire return on POS refineries.

Does the rorqual currently do this role? Yes

Does the rorqual need changing? Not really.

In an ideal world, ore compression is just an overcomplication, a Rorqual that refines ore into minerals... now that would be interesting, particularly if the refine rates are linked to a players skills as it is using NPC stations.

This would make flying a Rorqual a very specialised job (more so than now) and I think that would be really good.

the only change i like to see is that the ship maintenace bay could also fit other shiptypes

reason is the orca can do this and why...at times you have neutrals come into a system and warp to the station and bubble it so warping to a station in a no can do in null sec

with the orca i always had a small combat ship or cloaky ship on board so i could switch ships and at least give some intel.

with a rorqual you cant do this

for the rest the rorqual is fine

With this idea you have virtually rendered the rorqual redundant as a mining rig in one fell swoop.

Sure. Also make a ORE titan that its doomsday clears a systems belts and also can act as a mobile station. It has Capital Strip miners with 60000 m^3 per cycle and can automatically teleport the ore to hisec.

But really, the rorq is there for industrialists that want to expand their operations into lawless space, and it helps with logistics.

On a related note, capital ship would be almost invincible in hisec unless owners don't bother to check notifications about wardecs.

Nerf to mineral compression would be the best buff for Rorqual so far. But I have no slightest idea how would you do that... So far it's better to be left alone I think.

not sure there's a real reason for an extra mid, i'd rather see an extra low than an extra mid.

tbh you only really need two: probe launcher and cloak. Extra set of bulkheads would be nice, though.

As regards the on-grid boosting I believe the plan is to still allow mining bonus' to work off grid, unless CCP would like to correct me.

Boosting the rorq/ mining in general? What the point; you mine more ore, the market adjusts and the prices go down, and so you still make the same ISK as before.

No one wants to bump a Rorqual in high-sec?

No one wants Capital Shield Transporters in high-sec for PvP or PvE?

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

the dev's comments have been ambiguous, they said they wanted to bring warfare links, not foreman links on to the grid, then followed that with a comment about it affecting miners, so who knows?

This idea really perks my interest from a game mechanic standpoint.

It always seemed a bit odd that the Rorqual has to be behind a POS shield to be effective. It would be interesting to see some game mechanics that encourages the use of the Rorqual outside of the POS bubble.
