I am relatively new to the game, and have quickly become introduced to the pirates that roam the galaxies. Occasionally when i kill pirates, they will drop a green container that i can't open. I can see what is in it, but i cant loot it. I'm not sure if i am missing something to retrieve the items or if its something else.

It's not supposed to be green...

the container itself isn't green, but the icon above the container will be.

Are you at all colorblind?

E: if the triangle is blue or white, you can freely loot it. If it's yellow, you must have your safety at yellow to loot it.

Try use partial security mode next time, i know this is wired.. looks like you can open and see what inside but after using button "loot all" nothing happens, just swich to partial security mode.

EvE isn't game, its style of living.

If you have your safety on, and are not allowed to loot from the container, I'm pretty sure that means that the safety setting is preventing you to do something that would get you flagged as a suspect, and make you a target for everyone.
So only change your safety settings to loot if you are ready to deal with the consequences :)

What you see is probably a *yellow* container. Don't open it because it belongs to somebody else and it will flag you to all sorts of consequences (including being exploded).

Open *white* or *blue* containers / wrecks for now. You'll learn later about the rest.

Why would a pirate that he killed drop containers he couldn't open?

He did not say it's a mission. Might be as well a belt, where someone else shoot at the same target and got the wreck.

Implying that a colorblind person does not know how to compensate.

There are many different "types" of colorblindness. It would be presumptuous of me to assume I knew what type OP has and attempt to compensate for him.

Can we have Eve in Braille for our blind capsuleers, and maybe a descriptive audio service too?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

They are trolling you into opening somebody else's containers, making you a target to be killed.

Any time you drop your "safety" to do things, this may have potentially adverse / deadly consequences.

If you are new to the game, the ONLY zero potentially adverse consequences options are to look blue (free for all) or white (yours / your fleet) containers / wrecks.

I took no offense to the colorblind comment. And him clearing up that they were yellow instead of green was fine. I was just stating that i was colorbline (im green/red and blue/purple color blind so you know) to allow him to understand my confusion.

Are you for ******* real? There's a dev in this thread telling OP how things work and changing the safety gives you a clear warning. No one's trolling anyone here.

That was not referring to the fact of you being color blind. I've seen more than one newbie get blown up after dropping their safety and looting yellow wrecks or containers, and asking for help and / or clarification in the rookie channel afterwards. And I did hand out a couple of passkeys I had still lying around to help newbies continue their storyline.

He did not inform you about the possible consequences when you do this. So make sure to read the relevant dev blogs here and here and get used to inform you thoroughly about everything in EVE.

Be careful and fly safe!

One more tip you might wanna check OP: right click on your own container and pick Abandon Container. This will make the container blue, which might look a little different to you. Everyone can freely take stuff from an abandoned container, thus allowing you to drop stuff for pretty much anyone in space. If you can clearly see the difference between white, yellow and blue containers, you are golden. It then just comes down to knowledge of in-game law (aka CONCORD and Suspect / Criminal timers).

Amazing. Treat a person like they're smart enough to read and you get treated like a troll. Roll When you click to change the safety it warns you of the potential consequences. Of course, by your own account it looks like people are too stupid to read prompts in-game...
