So today I installed Eve on a tablet!

It works, but boy does the UI not like being prodded with a greasy finger.

A full write up and some picys can be found here:

Not really surprising. EVE is not very heavy on the computer, but it's heavily designed to run with mouse+keyboard. I don't think the stylus will do much to change that.

However, given EVE's nature it COULD work very well on a touchscreen, but it would require a full redesign of the UI.

Can't see that happening anytime soon.

Nice.

I found using a 24" touchscreen works pretty well, but would suggest a mouse for any form of combat.

Yeah I don't thin the stylus will help either. I think it couldn't improve accuracy, but wont work with the UI issues. Tbh I was expecting the UI size to be an issue, but not the whole double select to click a button, and especially not closing the character screen when you try to click.

I managed to pilot a ship with a graphics tablet before. I don't think much work would need to be done tbh.

Real men pvp on cellphones, and they drink beer and eat bacon at the same time.

I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous.

Well there is of course a difference between making it somewhat playable and making it actually enjoyable. (Multi-)Touch controls can be extremely handy if the UI is specifically designed for that. It would require a whole different control scheme if we want touch controls to be as fast to use as mouse&keyboard.

Please no

My biggest issue with tablets and touch screens in general is my neuroses about fingerprints on screens.

I hate them, I hate them so much....

Interesting.

I heard 20" tablets will be available during this year and it's a matter of months before "is there version for tablet?" threads will become daily issue in GD. Thought could be nice to have PC/2nd decade version first (i.e. icons and visuals in overview / fleet alerts / floating alerts) + bigger interface for high resolution screens instead of endless Excel tables with micro buttons.

And then leave lines all over them...

I'd rather just not touch the screen with anything unless I'm cleaning dust off it.

I refused to sacrifice quality for convenience.

I've tried that, but then I get mushroom imprints on the screen.

That doesn't remove the marks that would be left by my print-less fingers.

You're talking to someone who buys a new monitor when 1 pixel dies.
