To salvage/loot or not to salvage/loot

Trying to decide whether to use a maruader or a pirate battleship. The obv difference would be the ability to salvage and loot at the same time. Is salvage/looting worth the time oppose to doing another mission?

depends on who you mission against. Personally with guristas i wouldnt bother, the rest is ok. Mercs MUST be looted at least, the are most profitable enemy in game.

depends not only on the rat type but also on the mission. gone berserk is a pinata (up to 30mil salvage).

I should buy an Ishtar.

Also depends on NPC ship class, ie: large and medium wrecks would definitely be worth the time.

Pirate BS + noctis is the way to go IMHO. With mineral prices up its worth it to loot and salvage every single wreck.i That takes too long in a marauder IMHO. Actually regardless of my opinion. It takes longer than a noctis.

When i used to run IV's with marauder id salvage at the same time as shooting things. Typically id have a few left over at the end but i think faster than warping back to station to get noctis(in some cases jumping gates)

Yeah running one mission at a time perhaps. I take multiple missions, finish them, turn them in, then salvage. No acceleration gates that way. Your destination is already bookmarked, and you can run nano's now that salvage has been reduced.

Drones and Guristas are never worth salvaging. Always loot Mercs, EOM, and Mordus Legion. They espcaped the nerf bat when CCP nerfed loot table. Others are mission dependent, numerous BS rats -> salvage. Faction rats are worth looting for the tags alone, although 2 sides' tags are disproportionally overpriced compared to the other 2, due to the current state of FW farming. It also means LP on the side you farm the more expensive tags for are worth less.

My alt account is soon trained for a properly fit Noctis, but even now I salvage all missions. It takes maybe 5 minutes to salvage with the Noctis and that way I don't have to compromise my combat-ship fit.

It's maybe just me but it seems that higher-tier rats (ones with better bounties) generally drop better loot comparewd to their analogues. So if during Mining Misappropriation you see a lot of non-empty wrecks, this may be worth your time as well.

Generally, bring your spreadsheet to see what kind of ISK/hour you make in average to decide if it's worth it in general.

I used to use a marauder and loot and salvage on the go. Lately my mach has been the mission ship of choice.

I get through the missions quicker but the free plex each month that I used to get from the loot / salvage is brought in mission isk instead.

If you save up all the loot and salvage from running in a marauder, it is a nice bonus pay day when you cash it in..

If you do missions in 0.5-0.6 then looting and salvaging is not worth bothering.
It also depends on your LP=ISK ratio. If your ratio is more that 1500 then don't waste your time on loot/slv.

I was experimenting for 2 weeks.
I did missions in Vargur for 1 week, looting and salvaging. Then I did the same with Mach for a week, only with no loot and salv.
After 2 weeks I compared my ISK values earned each week.
In conclusion I made 37% more money with my Mach with no looting and salvaging. At that time my ISK ratio was 1700.

TL;DR You will be making 40-50% more money if you don't loot/salvage and if your LP=ISK ratio is more than 1500.

Whatever.

Take this how you will, but its what I figured up after doing my first 4, level 4 missions.

I ran two accounts, this one and my other account in a noctis.
I cleared all rooms then warped the noctis in, and the battleship back to home base.

My first missions turned out to be, Duo of death, Blockade and then Worlds collide (both blood raiders) then the hand of abbazabba or something.


I managed a bit over 30 million in total for all loot, I salvaged and picked up everything (even scored a MWD for my noctis because I forgot to grab one in amarr) and melted everything I could into minerals.

I think i came closer to getting about 33-37M because I rounded down to the nearest whole number when I looked out what I came out with.

I don't run 4's super fast or anything, and keeping my alt on stand by ready to warp in removed the need to change ships and dock/undock time.

I suppose if a person could run them really fast it would be more worth it to just leave the junk floating around, or find a second person to just salvage and split the loot 50/50.

I, personally am not all that worried about MAXIMUM isk/hour, I just like to pew pew and salvaging gives me a extra bit of isk and some minerals/salvage I can save up or sell.

When i was running l4 with this toon, i thought salvaging was a waste of time. I'm doing l4 with my alt ATM using a nightmare and i have a salvager + tractor beam fitted and some missions really, really worth being salvaged. Ennemies abound can easily gives you 100m in salvage. I mostly only salvage BS and sometime, medium wrecks. Small is a waste of time.

I recommend salvaging in marauder on go.
After few days of doing lvl 4's i usually make around 300m in salvage and loot from bs wrecks.
If you feel that you can afford second account - dedicated salvager will be an option.

Use a marauder with 3 tractor beams and salvage drones. Kill frigates first, then release salvage drones, they aren't agro'd by any cruiser or battleship. Tractor in the cargo containers as they salvage. Profit.

P.S. faster than noctis, please don't listen too inexperienced pilots.

Well ccp butt raped the salvage about 2 years back. Now loot and salvage is pretty much all garbage. A L5 mission might bring you 20m in salvage and loot. Won't be much longer and ccp will pull the plug on missions altogether to force us all to pvp or quit.

Im also reading almost all of these posters are totally Jelly , Totally BSing their brains out with absolutely no clue as to what their talking about without ever stepping foot into a marauder.

I was just about to say, Salvage and loot as you shoot - take's zero minutes off of the mission time, you just gotta click really really fast, during the heavy fighting part of the mission, Pulsing tank, handpicking wrecks, choosing targets wisely etc etc.

The way I do it, I always blow up the Frigates off the field first, as soon as the frigs are gone, I abandon all wrecks, makes picking the good ones from the bad ones as easy as pie.
With some missions you cant do it like that but, Most of them you can.

Wasting a PLEX on a Noctis account is worthless, as this, noctis alt could be in a Pirate battleship/2nd Marauder (one of them is advisable to be marauder) and you could be Dual boxing most missions in under 1 min with like 3000 DPS, paying a noobie 50% of the loot/salvage and walking away in a much better position.

But the salvage drones with 3 tractor beams ShockedIdeaBig smile IM DEFINATLY going to try that right now!

It's worth it, easiest way is return in noctis reel in wrecks release salvage drones once all wrecks are around you (make sure your not targeting and command "salvage") and watch or go akf while the little buggers go to work.
Once they are done just open all the cans and press loot loot loot loot loot loot loot....it's soooo nice, I only have 2 salvagers on my noctis.

I use a pirate BS then come back and salvage, but I salvage everything these days. Salvaging while missioning in 1 ship is slow.. but it is up to your play style... why not try it on the test server if you have the skills and see what you prefer
