This error...is absolutely....annoying. I get it roughly once every 2 minutes now. I've tried every single fix I've found....the ports aren't blocked, eve isn't blocked...what the hell is causing this?

Edit: Been happening for a week...

Your ISP

What about it? I did what CCP said and they said they saw no evidence of anything wrong with my isp. I have 100% connectivity to everything but eve, and this only recently started with eve..

Edit: Better yet is this fact...if I'm using in-game audio in a private chat, and click the quit button when I receive the socket closed error.....I can keep talking to the person using in-game chat even though I'm on my desktop. It does this indefinitely....So I'm not losing connection but my client thinks I am...which is stupid.

I have the same issue on and off, EVERYTHING else internet related Works at 200% Perfect, thus its at CCP side. CCP You NEED to look into this trubble, thinking of World of Warcraft, i never seen or had these issues there, and they got MORE online activity.

It COULD be packet loss on your line which you wouldnt normally notice well browsing but could cause issues to Eves data flow, although it is much more likely that the Eve servers are causing the losses on there end.

Once again the socket was not closed, it has had one of those safety caps installed so that you cannot hurt yourself.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

i briefly skimmed a support thread about it. highlights:

"packet closed" is triggered when the client detects 5 consecutive packets were not received from the server

to the majority of players, it occurs once every hour (eg 10:23, 11:23, 12:23)

this leads CCP to believe it is ISP-side, and some form of throttling.

also a possible router DHCP setting

no mention of what form of internet connection the affected players had (eg static or dynamic cable, DSL, fiber optic, wireless)

It's only happened a few times, for me, but never recurring. I would contact my ISP, though.

I didn't have this issue until retribution. I have been running an extended ping in the background just to monitor packet flow and don't see anything abnormal when the socket gets closed. I also find it hightly unlikely my ISP did anything concurring with Retribution's release to cause a sudden rash of socket closings. Ive already got one ship loss to it...Im still waiting on my petition. Hopefully whatever it is gets fixed...noting like loosing connection in the middle of a fight....

Be happy you get a message. Most of the time my client just dc silently. Yeah, I am on a Mac.

I've had it happen at various times. Sometimes when jumping through a gate, sometimes when warping to Deadspace, sometimes when exiting a station, sometimes when just sitting in station browsing the market. Even happened on the character selection page after logging in.

Definitely expansion related.

Been happening to me to ever since Retribution came out. Pretty annoying because my connection works fine with other games or my internet connection is perfectly fine.

Definetly an issue on CCPs side.

Had the same issue on my Mac when running on WIFI. Plugged in an ethernet cable, disabled wireless and no client disconnects since then.

I had this issue a long while back. It fixed itself and that leads me to believe my ISP put EVE online packets on the safe list. Write a gentle letter to your ISP to see if they stop Eve traffic at all. I think (don't quote me on this), that EVE uses P2P software and some ISPs throttle that stuff. Your ISP just might be doing that. It's worth a check into if you want to play EVE Online.
