I too fly a drone boat, a Rattlesnake. But I am not going to quit over the NPC AI changes. I had thought about it when Retribution first came out, but that was mostly because of the full room aggro bug that even made my passive Rattlesnake melt under the onslaught. Once that was fixed, things are fine again once I adapted.

Adaption is the key word here OP. Large Micro Jump Drive. As soon as you come out of warp, activate the LMJD. Use that, get distance, then use your sentries, assuming that you use them as any good "drone captain" should, to pick off all the small ships too along with the rest of them. It works very well, and missions actually go faster than ever before because you get better hits with your sentries at range, even on the frigate sized rats.

Even though I liked your post OP because you were mostly spot on about the mythical AFK drone boat mission runners, I disagree with you about unsubscribing. Don't unsubscribe because of it. Adapt. That is the key to Eve, even for mission runners.

TLDR but this stuck out. If you weren't able to go afk then you were doing it wrong. Were there missions that couldn't be left entirely to the drones, sure. But if done right, those were few and far between.

I'm not sure that "doing it right" should mean playing the game while not playing the game. Sure, you could afk some missions, but at that point, why bother playing? It'd be easier to just buy a plex at that point.

Also, the main problem with the AI is not for level 4s, it's for the new players in drone boats. They don't have the gunnery/missile skills to take out frigs. They're not going to pop frigs from 80km away when the targeting range of their ship is 20km, etc.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I can see your point. But, here's mine: The game requires a certain amount of farming if you're not willing to fork our rl cash to buy everything you want. So, after the 1000th time you've run the same mission so you can afford more stuff as a nooblet, what is there left to gain out of missioning but isk? You have to do it. There's no entertainment value out of the same unchanging content, AI improvements aside. So, are you expecting that everyone should automatically enjoy that or hit what is essentially an autopilot button for missions and go do something else more enjoyable? IDK about you but, about the only activity in my life I can do repetitively non-stop without getting completely and utterly bored with it is tossing one off. But then I do tend to change up the interwebzor pr0nsgirls I'm looking at.

Retribution is the best expansion ever! Not only did we get all sorts of fixes, no more GCC, and all sorts of viable ships that were once not; CCP has also taken out the trash by getting rid of players like you that refuse to adapt. Good riddance to bad rubbish I say.

It would have to be QFTW rather than just QFT, I suppose, since none of what was said in that paragraph was particularly close to the truth.

Drones have not been nerfed; no-one has made up any crap about people using drones; “real drone captains” have had no problems adjusting to the new AI, and no-one has unsubbed.

…or, well, I suppose that the “working as intended” bit was kind of true, except for the full-room-aggro bug, but that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I used to 'afk drone boat' all the time, when I could bear to do missions at all. You just have to choose the correct missions that aggro your ship and not the drones.
