PI Question extraction and routes

I noticed I am extracting a tad over 9k units of heavy metals and only producing 20 toxic metals

My setup is routed extractor control unit with 5 extractor heads to command center
from command center to basic industry facility
from basic industry fac to storage.

I understand I only need 3k raw to produce 20 of the refined material - so what is happening with the rest of the stuff?

Am I over extracting? do I need to rebuild this colony?

I am totally new to this PI thing. Thanks for the help.

I believe, if you overextract, it is lost. I usually try to extract to a warehouse, then move it from the warehouse into the factory. That way any extras will be held in the warehouse.

That's a very rudimentary solution to the problem, someone is going to follow up my post with something much more inventive, clever and useful. I'll be watching, because it might be a good way for me to learn as well =)

1st step, remove all links from command center, the storage there is totally useless.
2nd make launchpad, route all your extractors and factories to the pad.
3rd use expedited transfer to move all your stuff from silo to pad, and nuke the silo.

Heads--->Control Unit--->Launchpad--->Factory--->Launchpad(same one)

Now you can send you stuff to space cheaper, easier and have storage all in one pack.

When you run bit longer cycles, at start you get lots stuff, and then it declines so you want to have excess to reprocess when your extracted supply goes under factorys demand.
