[FEATURE REQUEST] Ship manufacture tracking

Eve is all about knowing every action you make will somehow have consquences that effect other players throughout the game.

For example, i built 50 or so of the new destroyers on launch day. No doubt almost every single on of them has been killed by now.

I want to know how. I want to be able to track my construction (ships only not modules) I want to know if one of my ships has been involved in a massive sov deciding war on the far side of null.

Proposal.

Ideally i would like my corp logo, or my name etc printed on every ship i made, i understand this would never happen it would be to time intensive to implement. However i would like each ship i construct to have an identfying code (only visible through API or similar) I could then search for this code on an out of game site such as battleclinic to bring up kills involving this ship, be it the ship killing others or getting killed themselves.

Thoughts?

I think that should be possible.

Have the ship's ID code included in the kill mails, for both killer and target.

Then you can ask for the Ship Fax Report. (Scan kill mails for that number)

(Who knows? Collectors might be interested in ships that have a proven track record in major events, and be willing to pay high prices for them as historic items)

No, I hate it. When I purchase a ship, it is mine. I don't want some random stranger creep keeping tabs on me and figuring out where I live and operate, and what kinds of fittings I use, etc., and then being able to match that up to my shopping locations. That is sensitive, vulnerable information that you have no right to as a ship builder and which I do not want to give you. This ain't facebook.

If it were real life, I would be scratching off your serial number, so to speak...

Ship ID's get removed when they are repackaged.

If I buy 1 ship from you and one from someone else, stack them, transport them to by battle ground then assemble them, who is to say which one is yours and which is the other person's?

First in First out theory. A stack would simply store then redistribute these numbers as ships were added or removed from it.
It could even be random, it doesn't actually matter.

As to tracking you, the kill mail already does that. This just tells more about the hull and where it was involved.
The data is trivial to your privacy, if not altogether meaningless to it.
They already know what type of hull, who cares if they can find out that it was part of the great battle X?

No, it would mean massive changes to the database. Currently a stack of items is one line in the database "item type" and "quantity". To keep track of a list of manufacturers would mean major changes to the way stacked items work. Besides wouldn't the next step be to want to know who is fitiing your shield booster or firing your ammo? Adding database tracking of manufacturer for 50,000 units of EMP S would increase storage in the database masively.

I did say that it would only apply to ships

I also like the collectors idea, im sure people would pay a little bit extra if a given ships had been involved in a large scale fight, especially if it was the one that got the final blow on a particularly spectacular kill.

Privacy issue i can understand. But tracking everything you do in game can be done now, i could you look you up on eve who or eve board. I can get your kill history from sites such as battleclinic. If i wanted to i could even find out what system your currently in by using a locator agent.

the repackaging issue is a good one, but i think the first in first out would be hard to keep track of. In an ideal world the unique ID would not be lost when the item is repackaged, as the ID would be assigned to the packaged item on construction completion

I would be okay with this if it only applied to either assembled items or to the original stacks that you get from the market from a single manufacturer.

That way:

1) The database would be fine, because manufacturer ID would only add about 50% to the size of each stack entry (new stacks fresh from the market have a 3 byte manufacturer ID associated with them, which transfers to the unique items when those items are unpackaged. TypeID and stacksize currently take up at least 6 bytes).

2) Any stacks made by players (by RE-packaging) would just be given the manufacturer ID of "00000000 00000000 00000000." In other words, manufacturer info is wiped, and no stack ever has to carry a whole list of all contributing manufacturers.

3) Due to the manufacturer being wiped upon repackaging, it gives players the option to essentially "scratch off the serial number" if they so choose to not be trackable by the manufacturer, by assembling, then repackaging, then assembling again their ships. So privacy is an option.

Im happy for the idea to scratch off the serial number to be there, that is a valid point.

Could you also not make it a skill related feature (this is off the top of my head and needs more fleshing out) where your ID number is applied to a certain number of ships or ship class per skill level to reduce the extra issues with database?

Never heard of battleclinic, evekill and locator agents?

It is not possible to track anything that is not assembled. Reason being its code is identical to all other items that are the same as it. There is no difference. You would have to massively increase the size of the database, because every single item ever produced, anywhere would need a unique ID. I don't even want to consider what that would do to the databse...

I would also like to point out that I said this in the last two threads with this same request and their not even 6 weeks old i don't think.

As others have mentioned, can't be done.

What you're asking for requires singleton data for each item, similar to how blueprints are handled. The whole point of repackaging and selling stuff on the market is that it strips all singleton data and just makes it a generic item that can be treated en masse with all the other items of the same type.

They'd have to rewrite the item management backend and database from scratch and store pretty much every last item in the universe as its own DB entry. Storage may be cheap, but it's not that cheap, nor are the DB transaction costs required to deal with it all.

What purpose does this serve other than being purely a novelty?


IMO theres a lot of core issues and game play that need to be addressed and focused on before we start entertaining ideas for pure curiosity sake.


Also if I buy a ship, the ship is mine. The maker no longer has any attachment to it.


I honestly don't see any purpose to this other then "I want to stalk my hulls"

If you want to know what your crap is blowing up, join a sov warfare alliance and watch the ships you make get blown up in person.

Also keeping track of your hulls kills and such and having them logged to the ship itself is a bit out of place. Unlike the real world where quality of construction can matter. In EvE quality of construction is uniform. So it's not the hull making a difference its the pilot. So keeping track of hulls would be an utterly pointless feature
