Newbie need help.

1. Rolled Caldari. Started tutorial basic.
2. Tutorial basic completed. 5 Agents opened up.
3. Chose Military Agent
4. Completed "Cash Flow for Capsuleer 2 of 10" - received new ship "Condor" - yay!
5. Stripped old Rookie Ship. All guns in Item Hangar.
6. Assembled Condor. "Make active" Condor.
7. Tried to drag and drop my guns to the Condor. These guns are my (a) Gatling Rail I; and (b) Light Electron Blaster I.

The guns refuse to fit to the slots in Condor.

Error message as follows:

"You cannot fit the Light Electron Blaster I because your ship doesn't have any turret slots left for fitting, possibly because you have already filled your ship with turrets or that the ship simply can not be fitted with turrets."

I do not understand, my Condor is empty and clearly has multiple high and medium slots empty. There is no reason why I lack the slots.

Can somebody help explain what I am missing please?

I just checked in-game, and the Condor has no gün hardpoints, only missile hardpoints.

If the tutorial requires you to fit gün-type weapons to your Condor, then it must be because the Condor used to have hardpoints for güns, but then in the recent expansion (called "Retribution") it hardened the **** up and replaced the silly gün hardpoints with proper manly turret hardpoints, except CCP forgot to update their tutorial to take this into account.

Silly CCP!! Maybe try less drink and more think?

File a petition. A GM should then sort you out, somehow.

Or if there's no tutorial requirement to actually do this, then it's still CCP's fault for forgetting to update the advisory text you're given, but if so then you probably shouldn't file a petition.

Güns are silly weapon types used mainly by Gallentean frog-eaters, Amarrian religious fanatics, and the Minmatar, although for inexplicable reasons some poorly designed Caldari ships also use them. Serious ships use missile type weapons, and your new Condor has 3 missile hardpoints, so you want to fit missile-type weapons into those hardpoint slots.

Since the Condor is a frigate, you should use frigate-sized weapons. The two frigate-sized weapon types are Light Missile Launcher I and Rocket Launcher I. Your hull has a bonus to both of these. Light Missiles have a longer range but do lower damage (measured in DPS, damage-per-second) than the shorter-ranged Rockets. As far as I recall, Rocket Launcher I are also easier to fit, in terms of required CPU or Powergrid or both.

As for the ammo to put into them, your hull gives a skill-dependent bonus to kinetic-flavoured damage. For Light Missiles, you want the kind that's named something like Scourge - that's the kinetic version. I can't recall if the kinetic Rocket-version is also named Scourge or if they're called something else, but when you do a "show info" on a missile, you can see in the 2nd tab what kind of damage it does and how much. So look for a number next to "kinetic" or "kin".

okay sounds like I need to install missiles.

The problem is I do not currently have the missile launcher skill. Will need to look into learning missile launcher skill.

A Caldari born without the Missile Launcher skill? That's so wrong!

Do you know how to use the Market to find a reasonably priced skill book? Provided you can find one, slotting it in and training it to 1 is trivially easy, because it's one of those entry-level skillz that has no prerequisites.

If you're at a total loss, just travel to Jita (via autopilot if necessary) and dock in the station at Jita planet IV Moon 4, called Caldari Navy something, and buy the cheapest skill book available there. I can't guarantee you won't be able to find it a few percent cheaper elsewhere, but Jita is highly competetive. But only do that if you can't find the skill book locally. (And whatever you do, don't fall for any of the scams posted in Jita local chat!)

Also, somebody ought to talk to CCP about making sure all newborn Caldari pilots have at least minimal capability to fit and utilize proper weapons, instead of those silly güns. This really rubs me the wrong way.

I've looked thoroughly, and under the list of skills for training, there is no skill called "Missile Launcher Operations I"

how do I learn Missile Launchers?

Don't think the tutorial asks to fit guns to the Condor, it's just something she wanted to do.

Any skills you don't have you can buy from the market. Just, only buy the skills you need right now, because the tutorials will give you quite a few skills, saving you some money. Once you're done with the 5 agents, feel free to buy more of the skills you feel you need.

Buy Missile Launcher Operation from the market, and also Rockets and Light Missiles and train them in the order in which they are prerequisited. Condor functions relatively well with an Afterburner and Rockets at short range. Each rocket type on the market does a different type of damage; you probably want the Kinetic rockets as your ship may have bonuses.

Ships will have high slots, but these slots will also be limited by the number of turrets or missiles you can install, as you've just discovered. Sometimes the limits are such that you can mix and match guns and missiles, other times you'll be left with available high slots for other things (cloaks, energy neutralizers, drone modules).

As far as guns (and missiles), you don't want to mix long range rails with short range blasters on a ship. Pick a range, fit the weapons for it (all the same, grouped by shift-dragging them onto each other in the fitting screen), and then fit the support modules (Afterburner, defenses) that help you stay within the range for your guns, whether that's far away or close up and personal.

When you undock, target something, don't shoot it, but right-click the Orbit button and set an orbit range that's appropriate for your weapons.

okay thanks. I bought a missile skillbook and am training the skill now. I will read up more on this fitting thing. its really quite complicated.

It was a natural impulse when I received the Condor, to want to port over all my existing equipment from my Rookie Ship. I did not know the fitting requirements are so strict.

Thanks all for your help.

Don't worry, you'll get the hang of things. Just give it time, and don't assume that EVE is like WoW where you can (or should) learn everything within a couple of months. I've played for 5 3/4 years and I'm still, in some ways, a total noob.

Don't buy any launchers yet.

I'm fairly sure the agent will give you two rocket launchers in Mission 3.

But they still don't give you any skillbooks for them. You need to buy missile operation, rockets and light missiles from the market I'm afraid.

Buy from a seller with 365 days left, as this is an NPC seller, and thus, the price of the skillbooks will be base price (usually are the sellers in the noobie tutorial systems.)

Hardpoint = a place on your ship specially designed to mount weapon system modules.

If you look at the fitting window, you will notice an icon of a turret at the top-left of the ring around the picture of your ship, and an icon of a launcher at the top-right of the ring. Underneath both you will notice small square boxes. If the boxes are white, then there are hardpoints of that type available. If the boxes are grey, then no more hardpoints of that type are available.

Typically one uses the type of weapon system that the ship gets a damage bonus for. If there is no damage bonus, then there is often some sort of weapon bonus on the ship to give you a hint about what you should use.

You might want to look at EVElopedia: New Player Experience

Also I highly recommend Industrial Sized Knowledgebase (PDF) which is pretty much the manual EVE should have come with.

Maybe next time look into the missile skill category...as it's clearly listed there.
