well im sure many you who play eve have heard about the woman in england who committed suicide because of a prank.

Unfortunately my dad who is 70 years and plays eve went to the hospital last night.

He was claiming he was robbed and of course i being his son called the police as stealing from the elderly in there homes is a crime. It turns out that in reality he was robbed by a goonswarm 2007 player and his friends alts pretending to be recruiters for 1 of the largest alliances in Eve test please ignore.

He gave me his accounts which are tootsie1 and bobm111 as hes is now to sick to take away his accounts.

So i am suppose to stop accounts.

I dont play eve or any internet games. But when a game or rather the behavior in game which means robbing people of there game money and assets are condoned and in fact praised by a company and it leads to such dire consequences of elderly being hospitalized it becomes more then a prank. In fact it becomes a crime in my book.

My dad was a veteran who took part in the bay of pigs invasion as well as the war in Vietnam. Because of his honesty which lead to him opposing war and over 40 years in exile and we recently celebrated his 70th birthday. He said "celebration of life i have lived 50 years more then i ever expected to."

he even has a wiki page" wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Malecki".

So even if you dont agree with his history the fact that behavior condoned in this game has hospitalized him should be a wake up call just like those 2 talkshow people in australia caused the death of a nurse.

So i stopped his accounts he had been playing since 2009. All i can say is shame on you and the company that allows stuff like this to happen and condones it.

Probably want to remove the account names.

And this thread should be interesting.

Hello. As a member of Goonswarm Federation, I can help you with this matter. There are a number of steps you must take in order to receive just compensation for the issues you have described. Follow these instructions exactly, or we will be unable to help you.

1: Go to http://somethingawful.com.
2. Create an account. There is a $10 fee associated with this.
3. Post in the "FYAD" section of the forum. Describe your problem fully and completely, and the steps you wish us to take to rectify it.

A Goonswarm agent will then take appropriate measures.

While it is sad that, that happened it really should not be a wake up call for anything. The ability to commit crimes are a big part of this game.

There are other games where crime is not a big part, lots of other games, thousands of other games. In EVE to avoid losing everything all you have to do is not willingly hand over everything to someone else or leave it in an area where others have access too. If you do hand over goods or store them unsafely you are taking a risk and you don't always come out on top of risks.

I am sorry your father got beat at this video game and it affected him in such a terrible way but at what point does personal responsibility come in when this game is designed from the ground up to be like this and doesn't hide it. Pregnant women should not fly on Air Planes, doesn't mean Air Planes should not be allowed to fly.

You're mistaken, sir. The Australian talk show hosts aren't all that thrilled about it either, but they were most certainly not responsible for that women's death. It was her own call to hand out personal information without fact-checking who was asking for it, and then it was her own choice to commit suicide as a result of feeling guilty.

Sorry about what happened to your father. But I am not seeing why this should be a wake up call to us. EVE is notorious for in-game crimes being allowed and even encouraged. He knew what to expect and if he couldn't cope with the stress, it's on him to give it a break.

While I empathize with you if your story is true (though this being EVE and EVE being full of scammers, trolls, and liars, I really doubt it) I would like to point out that this is the Internet, and EVE is an especially prominent example of what's known as the G.I.F.T. or Greater Internet ****Wad Theory. A more professional and less swear-filled analysis of this theory, called the Online Disinhibition Effect, can be found courtesy of Wikipedia. Hope this helps answer some of your questions as to why this might happen and, even if it did, why you'll get remarkably little sympathy here.

I promise not to do anything bad in a player-versus-player game ever again.

First off I hope that your father is feeling better

But the member of Goonswarm that scammed your father out of his cyber earnings was acting perfectly within this game. This function has been around since this game began, it is now a new function.

It is very much like the ability to shoot someone in the head in Halo 4. But fortunately the loss can be recouped using real money and purchasing items called PLEX, this will allow you to restore the items and cash missing from the accounts.

Having played this game for years I am sure your father was aware of it nature.

Once again, I hope he is feeling better.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!
